About the group/team
The User Growth group is one of three groups which make up the Product Growth Supergroup - one of the biggest areas at Canva driving commercial success across our company foundational metrics of Monthly Active Users (MAUs) and Annualised Revenue, and also playing a critical role in Canva’s mission to empower the world to design.
The User Growth group does everything from building exciting new products and features to running hundreds of experiments every quarter and conducting research and analysis to grow Canva in new markets and categories.
The group’s strategy is based on three pillars: 1) delight first time users 2) increase frequency of use (so customers want to use more products, more often, for longer and across more platforms) and improve our virility by building step change growth opportunities to ultimately grow our active user base.
Composed of several product teams, the User Growth group’s impact spans our entire funnel (signup & login, logged-out homepage, onboarding, post-publish, collaboration, virility/referrals) and will also work closely with our Revenue generating growth teams on many cross-company growth projects.
About the role/specialty
As the Group Engineering Lead for User Growth you will be responsible for Leading 4 engineering teams and 20+ engineers in a shared mission to increase activation, frequency of use and drive vitality. We want to rapidly grow this group to 3 groups, 6-7+ teams and 40+ engineers over the next 12 months.
Responsibilities include engineering strategy, resourcing/team building, managing performance and working collaboratively with product and design leadership partners to build and execute on the product roadmap while ensuring appropriate engineering processes and practises are in place to do so sustainably, and appropriate time is being spent scaling and maintaining our engineering systems.
The teams in the User Growth group own critical real estate such as our login/signup flows, the logged out homepage of Canva, and onboarding flows, and as such requires a strong mix of balancing product development and investing in technical debt all while delivering critical rapid experimentation, and managing experiment follow up (productisation or decommissioning).
Our teams also experiment across a lot of surface areas owned externally to the group, and as such a key part of the role is being able to support our teams in their engagement with other teams, partnering with stakeholders and resolving dependencies across all of Canva which in turn gives great exposure to the entire product.
