Canva’s Commitment and Mission

At Canva, we celebrate diversity. We deeply believe that bringing together diversity of thoughts, perspectives and expression is key to building the best product, team and company. We look for many different skills and abilities, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture. So, even if you don’t think you quite meet all of the skills listed or tick all the boxes, we’d still love to hear from you!

Our mission at Canva is to empower the world to design and since launching in 2013, we have grown exponentially, amassing over 86 million monthly active users across 190 different countries and a team of over 3,000 people… and the best bit is that we’ve only achieved 1% of what we know we’re capable of.

Join us and design your future.

The Cloud Platform Group owns Canva’s cloud infrastructure, which ensures the safe, secure and reliable operation of canva.com. We also provide key support for critical internal workflows. Our mission is “To reduce the complexity burden of using the Cloud”, which we achieve through a combination of the tooling and services we provide, our robust standards, comprehensive developer documentation library and a team of experts who love a good challenge.

About Cloud Network

The Cloud Network team is responsible for providing the network that interconnects the Canva cloud. As Canva scales, so does its network and we are looking for engineers to join the team and help them on this exciting journey. The team is always looking to apply best practice to their work to ensure that the Canva network infrastructure is safe and reliable and has the ability to scale with the rest of the company.

We are eager to find novel solutions to problems and start to contribute back to the open source community that has given us so much.

The team is working closely with others in the Cloud Platform group to reduce the complexity burden of using the cloud and allowing our users to get on with simply writing code to fulfill business requirements. Near-term projects include building out our multi-account, multi-region capability and also working to improve our ingress and egress network controls.

What a typical week looks like:

  • Engaging in long term strategic planning exercises
  • Helping a fellow teammate overcome a roadblock
  • Guiding the direction of a design document that is helping to decide on a solution to a specific problem the team is facing
  • Leading team ceremonies such as standups and retros
  • Collaborating with other teams to ensure that the platform is appropriately supported by the network.

What you'll bring:

  • A balance of exceptional technical and people leadership skills
  • Experience building and/or working in impactful and collaborative teams where everyone is able to share their best ideas and be their best selves
  • Previous commercial experience working in a complex network environment; comfortable contributing to design documents and performing thorough code reviews
  • Excellent knowledge of IP, DNS, TCP, TLS and Network/HTTP load balancing
  • Understanding of OSI Layer 2 to Layer 7 fundamentals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; with the ability to work with a diverse range of Canvanauts from different backgrounds, with different expertise and with different needs
  • Be capable of leading by example - promoting Canva’s values, no-blame mentality, and engineering values.

Are you someone who enjoys solving problems with others?  We’re looking for a person who not only follows best practice but aspires to define them too.  We need you to help lead a team responsible for delivering Canva’s secure, reliable and scalable network architecture in the AWS cloud.
