Our mission at Canva is to empower the world to design and since launching in 2013, we have grown exponentially, amassing over 86 million monthly active users across 190 different countries and a team of over 3,000 people… and the best bit is that we’ve only achieved 1% of what we know we’re capable of.

About the Reliability Platform Group

The Reliability Platform Group is responsible for providing the tools and processes to scale reliability across all Canva services. Our teams work together, and with other groups, to deliver preventive and detective tooling, processes, and best practices that uplift Canva’s reliability. We do this by driving operational excellence, reducing the impact of incidents, and providing visibility and accountability across the broader Engineering community. The group encompasses Observability, High Availability & Incident Detection, Incident Response, and Pre-Emption domains and is set to grow rapidly in the near future as we shoot for some ambitious goals.

What you'll do:

  • Building and leading a team that operates a 24x7 on-call roster that coordinates our availability incidents and provides major/crisis level incident coordination
  • Drive improvements to our incident management process and tools at all levels with a goal to improve incident response across the board
  • Lead the post-incident review process. Use data from incidents and post-incident reviews to derive insights that help us learn and identify reliability risks that we need to mitigate
  • Develop scalable escalation and communication processes that will work for Canva through our next stage of growth
  • Building automation for all aspects of incident management and reporting, including post-incident follow-up
  • Support an exceptional culture of reliability across Engineering by measuring and driving continual improvement
  • Be heavily involved in hiring; build and grow impactful and highly engaged teams of world-class engineers by attracting, interviewing, and selecting talent for your group

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Commercial experience working with complex, distributed web applications
  • Knowledgeable in reliability and major incident response principles and best practices
  • Experience working in, and ideally building, a team that works effectively across multiple time zones, such as a “follow-the-sun” on-call response team
  • Experience with technical and people leadership - having previously led successful teams where everyone is able to share their best ideas and be their best selves
  • Introspective focus to continually improve the effectiveness of Canva’s incident response capabilities
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills, both written and verbal, as you will need to share knowledge, communicate and coordinate changes across multiple teams
  • Ability to think strategically but also able to make crazy big goals happen. This role will be very hands-on!

  • Flexible hours and a hybrid working model which values work-life balance
  • Our very own Canva University, internal coaching, and Employee Support Programs to help you be your best
