About the Team

Canva’s Marketing Operations team is leading the development of marketing platform capabilities to reach a growing number of businesses, customers and markets. We are enabling marketing teams to deliver greater impact, output and intelligence in the ways they engage our customers. The team consists of Martech Partnerships, owning the relationships with our key strategic partners, and Ad Operations, driving our advanced global tracking strategy and implementation of scalable processes and protocols.

The User Analytics Engineer (Web) will be responsible for the end-to-end development, configuration and deployment of third-party event tracking on Canva site pages. Focusing on future-fit strategies including server-to-server and first-party data led initiatives, the UAE will continue to build on Canva’s advanced tracking capabilities - arming Canvanauts with the required framework for scaling to achieve 1B26.

Why is the role needed?

Presently there is no function within Canva that is responsible for the process, protocols and governance of the solutions used to track and measure marketing efforts. Current efforts span several external agencies and a half-dozen specialist teams, resulting in a significant misappropriation of resources across the business. This has widespread implications on the end-to-end marketing process, quality of outputs and resources required.

What is exciting about this role?

This is a rare opportunity to build out a crucial function within Canva - establishing an extraordinary practice within the user tracking and site tagging space. This position has high visibility to leadership across functions - Engineering, Data, Legal and Marketing - with the opportunity to advance capabilities and future-proof Canva's MarTech efforts.

What will the role be doing?

  • Defining the vision for site tracking within Canva’s expanding Marketing & Engagement group, including strategic approach and tooling.
  • Designing streamlined and effective processes for tracking tag development, configuration and deployment as well as govern their application, ensuring AdOps best-practices are standardised and adhered to across marketing teams globally.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation and automation, being responsible for the strategy, evaluation and eventual implementation across the organisation.
  • Being responsible for the migration and integration with partners to shift tracking to server-side and API led tracking.
  • Leading the conversation around emerging technologies and industry trends in the AdOps and site tracking space, maintaining a competitive advantage in the evolving ecosystem.
  • Collaborating with your teammates in the built-for-purpose AdOps team to develop innovative solutions for user-level tracking for site, placement and creatives across marketing channels.
  • Contributing to the development of a multidisciplinary customer experience through journey mapping, proprietary session/user identifiers and the hand-off between Ad Platform and CRM/Life Cycle.
  • You will partner with Growth and Brand Marketing, Data, Engineering and Platform teams to define the site tracking program roadmap and support senior marketing partners across Canva.

Key skills and experience..

  • You have proven experience within a marketing operations, technical consulting or data engineering function at a client, agency or relevant technology organisation.
  • You have current hands-on experience and a sophisticated understanding of client-side and server-side tracking technologies such as Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics.
  • Proven understanding of JavaScript and web technologies (HTML/CSS).
  • Proficient in the language of engineering and data analytics, capable of communicating complex concepts across a broad range of subject areas.
  • Extensive experience leading large-scale site tracking programs, including solving known and unknown issues in a broad set of channels and markets.
  • Experience collaborating with enterprise Tech (AWS, Cloudflare), Data (Snowflake, Fivetran) and Media Partners (Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok).
  • Ability to balance desired tracking capabilities with site performance and user consent for a comprehensive and privacy-first tagging strategy.
  • You have excellent spoken and written communication skills, allowing you to effectively influence and communicate complex information clearly to your colleagues and through marketing material.
  • An energy giver with a positive outlook and the ability to influence your team leads, peers, and senior leaders across all company functions.
  • A natural teammate, with a consistent track record of multi-functional collaboration.
