About the team:

The Video Team at Canva is on a mission to make the default video editor for everyone. With millions of users using Canva every day, this is an opportunity to redefine visual and animated communication and have a global impact on the way people create content for video platforms. 

Canva Video has one of the largest audiences of content creators in the world. You’ll be a key driver in helping achieve our vision of becoming the go-to video platform, and build a multimedia playground for everyone - from individuals to small businesses; from large organisations to NGOs.

Responsibilities

  • Creating new web-based video editing user-facing features such as slowmo and effects.
  • Implementing variable bitrate streaming for video and audio; and working on browser-based video filtering.
  • Maintaining our existing product for the millions of users who use it.

Skills and Experience

  • Expert knowledge of JavaScript and web technologies (HTML/CSS)
  • Experience developing rich applications with HTML/CSS/JS
  • Strong knowledge of frontend, design patterns
  • Intimate knowledge of cross-browser and cross-device development
  • Ability to write high-performance, reusable code for UI components, including appropriate testing
  • Passion for performance debugging and benchmarking
  • Minimum three years experience
  • Computer science fundamentals

Bonus Experience

  • WebGL or general graphics programming experience
  • Interested in low-level browser and rendering performance
  • Video-related programming experience, especially browser-based video
  • Experience working with React
  • Interest in video such as After Effects, Premier Pro or iMovie
