Canva’s Commitment and Mission

At Canva, we celebrate diversity. We deeply believe that bringing together diversity of thoughts, perspectives and expression is key to building the best product, team and company. We look for many different skills and abilities, as well as how you can enhance Canva and our culture. So, even if you don’t think you quite meet all of the skills listed or tick all the boxes, we’d still love to hear from you!

Our mission at Canva is to empower the world to design and since launching in 2013, we have grown exponentially, amassing over 86 million monthly active users across 190 different countries and a team of over 3,000 people… and the best bit is that we’ve only achieved 1% of what we know we’re capable of.

Join us and design your future.

Product Design at Canva

One of the principles of our design team is to 'Show the future'. As Designers, we transport the rest of the company into a future we're yet to build. A big part of a Product Designer's role at Canva is to be a visionary—visualising and reinventing the future of design.

Product Designers at Canva take the dream and make it something everyone can relate to and rally behind. We start from the very early stages: finding the right problem to tackle, exploring ideas for solving it, and then refining it into a coherent solution.

Our product designers carry out research, brainstorming, sketching, prototyping, and collaboration with our engineers to ship great products. We are empathetic user advocates and respect our users' opinions through interviews, usability testing, data analysis, wireframing, flowcharting, and journey mapping to show the different stages that customers go through as they come into contact with Canva.

About the Group

The Editing Product Group (part of Design Experience) at Canva is on a mission to build powerful, yet simple tools that empower anyone to design anything. We work on shipping new exciting products and core editing components & tools that people around the globe use to design everything from social media graphics, to documents, to videos and more!

About the role

In this role, you'll collaborate with our Product, Engineering, Researchers and Group Leads to shape, drive and support the team to implement one of our new flagship products and create experiences that continue to delight at scale and empower our users to design truly anything.

You'll guide and improve processes —helping the team set roadmaps and strategies for the future.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work with a passionate team in an environment that rewards initiative, creativity, and independence!

What You'll Do

  • Plan and handle your own workload and design process; Effectively resolving any contending priorities and overcoming roadblocks.
  • Contribute new ideas or ways to increase Group impact, possibly through facilitating workshops/brainstorms within your group
  • Drive Vision creation/formation, as well as critical decision making.
  • Visually communicate your ideas through prototypes and test with users.
  • Partner with other designers, engineers, and product developers in the larger group to create simple solutions that solve not only for your immediate areas of focus, but also align with the overarching design system and long-term goals of other teams.
  • You are able to understand the different trade-offs and align design solutions to Canva business goals. Activities include writing well-balanced docs; providing different design options to show trade-offs; creating hypotheses and experiments focussing on revenue and MAU growth; ability to apply industry trends to Canva scenarios and designs.

What You'll Bring

  • A portfolio that demonstrates experience in product thinking where you have previously shipped UX/UI design for digital products— including web-based or native mobile experiences.
  • Strong interaction design skills; Comfortable in prototyping (and documenting) precise and sometimes complex user interactions so that your designs can be understood by team members and/or tested early with users.
  • Big-picture thinking. While details are everything, creating an experience that always keeps our users in mind is equally as important.
  • You are excited by regularly coming up with new ideas, and shipping new products and features that address your users’ real needs.
  • You shine through your designs—creating user flows and wireframes that simplify user interactions
  • You thrive in a collaborative workplace.
  • You are a problem solver that’s excited by a challenge. You enjoy sitting in a room and whiteboarding ideas to confidently come up with simple, elegant solutions that everyone can move forward with.
  • You are an empathetic user advocate that values the backing of research and data analysis when it comes to designing modern solutions.
  • Flexibility in your work is something you enjoy. Our growth means there are constantly new things to work on every day, as such it’s likely that you’ll often be working across the board on new and exciting projects.
