About the Reliability Platform Group

 

The Reliability Platform Group is responsible for providing the tools and processes to scale reliability across all Canva services. Our mission is to make Canva the world’s most trusted platform. Our teams work together, and with other groups, to deliver preventive and detective tooling, processes and best practice that uplift Canva’s reliability.

We do this by driving operational excellence, reducing the impact of incidents, and providing visibility and accountability across the broader Engineering community. The group encompasses Observability, Availability & Detection, Incident Response and Pre-Emption domains and is set to grow rapidly in the near future as we shoot for some ambitious goals.

This role is based in our Sydney office. However, it is remote-friendly for applicants physically based anywhere in Australia or in New Zealand.


What you'll do!

  • Participating in a 24x7 on-call roster that coordinates our availability incidents and provides major/crisis level incident coordination. You will be facilitating the incident response process and enabling the on-call from service teams around the business to focus on mitigating issues faster.
  • Drive improvements to our incident management process and tooling at all levels with a goal to improve incident response across the board.
  • Drive the post incident review process. Use data from incidents and post-incident reviews to derive insights that help us learn and identify reliability risks that we need to mitigate.
  • Develop scalable escalation and communication processes that will work for Canva through our next stage of growth.
  • Building automation for all aspects of incident management and reporting, including post incident follow up.
  • Support a strong culture of reliability across Engineering by measuring and driving continual improvement. 

What you'll bring to the role!

  • Two-plus (2+) years of commercial experience working with complex, distributed web applications.
  • Experience coordinating or responding to incidents.
  • Knowledgeable in reliability and major incident response principles and best practice.
  • Introspective focus to continually improve the effectiveness of Canva’s incident response capabilities.
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills, both written and verbal, as you will need to share knowledge, communicate and coordinate changes across multiple teams.

Nice to haves! Not required!

  • Experience working in a team that works effectively across multiple time zones, such as a “follow-the-sun” on-call response team.
  • Experience working with a mainstream programming language Java/Python.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
