About the team

Canva’s payroll function sits in the Canva HQ in Sydney, Australia and is part of the Finance Operations (FinOps) specialty. We manage payroll across our growing number of Canvanauts worldwide. Our headcount is growing quickly as we continue to scale the business with the finance team alone forecast to double in size in the next year.

About the role

The primary role of the Payroll Manager will be to own the end-to-end payroll process, activities and compliance for non-AU payroll entities, working with our outsourced payroll providers where applicable.

The role will also be able to understand compensation trends and perform people costs analysis, supporting the People teams as a Payroll Business Partner, and helping to scale the payroll function globally, including identifying process improvements and systems automation.

What you'll do:

  • Over the first 3 months at Canva, our payroll manager will take over full operation and oversight of non-AU payrolls including NZ (managed in-house) and other entities with outsourced payroll processing (US, EU Payroll across multiple countries)
  • By standardising the operation and accounting of outsourced payrolls, you will create efficiencies and create a streamlined process for onboarding, operating and reviewing outsourced payrolls
  • You'll work alongside the current Payroll Manager with all initiatives currently underway including further automating current payroll processes, creating a repository of standardised payroll process documentation, assisting with international payroll compliance matters and supporting month end close procedures
  • If successful, if you will lead the establishment a formal process for managing payroll related queries from staff and will be a key contributor to the central repository for payroll related information, including FAQ’s, Payslip info, Superannuation payment information etc. Collaborating with the HR Ops/People Team, the new hire will establish a process to help manage the growing number of payroll related queries from our staff

What we're looking for:

  • At least 3+ years of relevant payroll experience
  • Understanding of payroll compliance and comprehensive knowledge of Australian and/or international state and industry legislation
  • Analytical skills and the ability to understand costs, trends and provide insights;Ability to take ownership of processes and an eagerness to apply previous learnings to new challenges and evolve with the growth of the company
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills - delivering a great service to all levels of employees
  • Self motivated with a desire to learn
  • Highly organised with the ability to work under pressure and within set deadlines
  • Experience managing outsourced payroll providers + experience with Netsuite would be a bonus, but not essential!
