Derived from the French noun meaning mole, taupe is not quite gray but not quite brown either. It tends to be thought of as a boring, bland color. However, with neutrals and nudes becoming all the rage in fashion, taupe has enjoyed a newfound popularity. It is now not only seen everywhere—in catwalks and home interiors—but is also considered sophisticated.

As an easy neutral, taupe is a great foundation to build off of. Combined with other neutrals like tans and whites, taupe is often found in interiors that seek to be cozy and welcoming.
