everyone has a brand businesses non-profits even countries and people simply put your brand is the gut feeling people have when they hear your name visually your logo colors and fonts are the building blocks of your brand applying your brand consistently makes your non-profit recognizable across communities countries languages and media the more consistent you are the more people will recognize and trust you and trust is what turns an audience into a movement for change the best way to manage your non-profit brand in canva is by creating a brand kit on the home page click brand kid give your kid a name

upload your logo in all its versions do you have a black and white logo different layouts do you sometimes use only your symbol or your nonprofit's word mark upload them all here like this next create a color palette of your brand colors for each color add the hex coat this is a string of six digits that uniquely defines a color on the web create as many palettes as you need for example you can organize your colors in primary secondary and tertiary color palettes

finally select your official brand fonts and styles if your brand fonts are not in the drop down upload them into canva and your brand kit's done update your kit at any time as your non-profit brand evolves over time and if you're managing multiple brands you can easily create new ones

let's start with a template

now that you're in the editor select any element to customize let's start with changing colors

the colors preset in your brand kit will show under the color tile in the toolbar and in the side panel here let's add some text your headings subheadings and body text styles will appear based on your brand kit settings

finally make any design unmistakably yours

click logos and select the logo to add it to your project

your design is now perfectly on brand

let's choose another template and explore the fastest way to make any design your own

in the side panel click more and then styles notice your brand kit here

click your brand fonts to apply them to existing text click your color palette to shuffle through color combinations and have fun experimenting with designs letting canva do the hard work for you now we've got the basics down time to talk about another key part of your brand images don't miss the next video you'll be amazed at what you can do with images in canva pro

canva pro gives you access to millions of images and infinite ways to edit them creatively here are some tips on how to use images in your designs

to find images select the elements tab and type your keyword in the search bar use the filters to search for a specific orientation or color and use these tabs to restrict your search to photos or illustrations

to use your own photos click the uploads tab to import them into canva once you find the right image add it to your design with a click

composition and balance are crucial to a good design so it's important for your image to be the right size let's see how you can adjust images in canva to resize your image drag one of the white circle handles on the corner to crop your image click crop in the toolbar above the editor and drag the crop handles on the corners

to reposition the image within your cropped frame double-click and move it around or resize it

if you want to showcase your images in more creative ways search for frames in the elements tab choose a frame and then simply drag your image into it and adjust it as you like

there's more to images than cropping and resizing click edit images to explore a world of creative possibilities select adjust to edit your images to match your design

going for a warm look try playing with the tint slider or make your image warmer or cooler remember less is more and subtle adjustments usually work best looking for a more dramatic effect increase the contrast and try bringing the shadows down

aiming for a timeless black and white look decrease the saturation to remove color

the creative possibilities are endless invest some time experimenting to see what effects give you the best results for your designs once you're happy with your edits copy the code and apply it to all the images in your design to create a consistent look

you can also use filters to achieve preset looks click see all and test different filters until you find the one that looks right it's that easy

another helpful tool is the background remover this tool allows you to use the central element of an image and remove the background simply click background remover and wait for canva to work its magic refine the result with the erase and restore brushes to have more control over your selection change the size of your brush and click here to see the original image

let's import a new picture

and edit the layout a few clicks and we're done instagram is only one of the many platforms we can design for we're planning a campaign across facebook and twitter too wouldn't it be great if we can just adapt our design to all these platforms without having to worry about different sizes and formats with canva you can

simply click resize select the format you need and click copy and resize canva will open new documents with the correct size for each platform keep adjusting your content until it looks just right

and rename your document so you can easily keep track of all your designs

let's see how that works once your post is ready click the share button then schedule and select the day and time you want your post to go live

then select your social platform if this is your first time posting through the content planner canva will ask you to connect your social media accounts and add your captions and your post is ready to go

this will give you an overview of all the social media posts you've already posted and your scheduled content you can even start your creative process from here simply click the plus icon to start a new design

import all the template slides into your project with one click

or add single slides one by one to do this click the plus icon and then select the slides you need

you can also duplicate slides and remove them

when working on a presentation it helps to have a holistic view of what you're creating with grid view you can have an overview of your presentation and reorder your slides around until you have the perfect sequence

motion is a great way to make your presentation stand out in the elements tab search for stickers and explore a whole world of playful possibilities

for moving arrows and emojis to funky illustrations holding people's attention easily

another way to make your presentation spectacular is adding animation when you're done creating your slides click animate and hover over the options to see a preview

are you going for a calming fade effect

or maybe an inspiring rise how about a decisive baseline

your presentation is now ready to be presented to the world download your deck as a powerpoint or as a pdf what if you didn't want to share your presentation as a static document with canva you can create talking presentations find out more in the next video

whether your team is scattered across different time zones or you simply want a resource for people to refer back to talking presentations let you present as if you were there in person with canva you can record yourself as you talk through your presentation making it easier than ever to bring your message to life

let's see how it works when you finish designing your presentation click share then present and record and finally go to recording studio now you can turn your room into a recording studio choose your camera and your microphone select the no camera option if you only want to record your voice before you start recording take a moment to get familiar with the backstage of the recording studio at the bottom of the screen you can see your slide so you always know what's coming next your slide notes are displayed on the side here and the timer at the top will help you keep your timing on track

when you're ready take a deep breath and click start recording

if you need a break at any time click pause and then resume to keep recording

when you're finished stop the recording and wait while the recording uploads to share your talking presentation simply click the link or download the recording as a video file speaking of videos did you know you can make and edit videos all within canva the next video will show you how

videos are a great way to tell a story and rally your community around a cause with canva you can create an awesome video in no time as part of their campaign our non-profit ocean org wants to create a video to get their community excited about the upcoming beach cleanup

let's start by choosing a video format you can choose formats for specific platforms like facebook or tick tock we'll go for a 1920 by 1080 pixels the standard landscape format in the editor you'll notice something new the video timeline right now it's looking pretty empty let's search for a template to start inspired let's transfer all the template pages into our timeline and take a closer look at how the timeline works

videos in canva are made up of pages think of them as scenes in your video

this line below is an audio track click on it to see it in full view press play to watch a preview

and slide the time indicator to go to a specific point in the video

now that we know our way around the timeline let's turn our template into a unique video we want to keep it short so let's select the page and hit delete on our keyboard next let's customize the content we can change colors add our logo

and change our text

but that's just the beginning in elements let's search for a video on coral reef and drag it into our frame to replace the current video

let's delete the audio track and go back to the elements tab to explore more options with plenty of audio files to choose from we can refine our search based on the type of music we want and listen to a preview once we've found the perfect music simply click to add it to the timeline our video is shaping up pretty well we just need to edit it some more to make it feel more cohesive

click on each page and drag the sliders to make that portion of the video shorter or longer to help our pages come together we can also add transitions by clicking the plus sign and add transition let's go for a dissolve effect and apply it to all our pages

our video is ready for download in the download menu select mp4 as the file format and make sure all the pages are selected and there you have it your video is ready

videos are a great storytelling tool but sometimes print is just as effective watch the next video to find out how canva can help you create powerful print designs

while digital communication continues to expand print still has a huge role to play in spreading your message find out what projects you can create and print with canva

on the home page use the search bar to see all the designs you can create

canva helps you place print orders and guide you every step of the way let's see how that works let's place an order for our impact report by clicking the print button

we can choose to print our document single-sided or double-sided let's go for double-sided for this to work canva tells us we need an even number of pages let's go to the end of our report and add a back cover then let's select all pages again to update the count next let's choose paper stock and number of copies before we complete our order canva helps us make sure that the edges of our document don't have any unwanted white space and that no elements are too close to the margins this way nothing will get lost in a center fold or get cut off in the printing process canva also generates a proof for you to help you make sure everything is exactly how you want it finally fill out the delivery and payment details

if you want your pdf to link to other resources you can make your document interactive select some text click the link icon and paste in your link you'll see your text is now a link to change your target link simply click the link icon and edit the url

once you're done you can export your updated pdf by going to download and selecting pdf from the file format drop-down

as a canva pro for nonprofits user you already have a default team of one which you can find in the sidebar to rename your team simply click on it then click again to edit the name next you can add team members click invite team members to add people you can create an invite link and share it privately or type in your team member's email address and send the invitation right from within canva with canva pro for nonprofits you can have a team of up to 10 people at no extra cost

you can assign different roles to your members administrators can manage teams create brand kits and schedule posts using the content planner team members can create edit and share designs finally template designers can edit your brand kit design templates and post content on social media without any team management rights perfect for contractors

once you have your team set up you can organize your members into smaller groups go to the groups tab and click create a group

rename the group and include your team either as administrators or team members

to share a document with your team members go to share type in their names and choose their permissions so they can view leave comments or make changes to your design you can also create a link and share it with your team canva makes it easy for team members to collaborate on the same document at the same time the avatars at the top let you know who's working on the file and the bounding boxes tell you what changes they're making to the design

team members can also leave feedback using the comments feature making it easier than ever to collaborate and efficiently complete projects while keeping everyone informed

if you have a specific task at mention the person to assign the comment as a task

they will receive an email and be prompted to join the conversation

when there's no more feedback to discuss resolve the task with one click to remove the conversation not quite sure the conversation's resolved to retrieve previous conversations go to file and access resolved comments from the drop down menu with canva pro for non-profits collaboration is easy what if we told you there's another feature that can make your design work even easier watch our next video

great design is not only about creativity staying organized and managing files save you time and energy for the work that truly matters

canva folders help you do just that the home page gives you an overview of all your design projects this is a great shortcut for when you want to reopen a file you've worked on recently to access all of your work click all your designs in the side menu

keep your work organized and save time with folders go to all your folders and create a new folder name it

and share it with your team

now you can go back to all your designs and move files into the new folder

you can also import files from your computer

but that's not all let's see how to get the most out of your folder system

with canva pro create as many subfolders as you need

change your view settings for a better experience

rearrange your files alphabetically or chronologically to look through your folders easily

and star your folders to create a shortcut for quick access

the magic of folders continues in the editor in the side menu look for folders and easily access your assets and

files can save your files to your folders directly from the editor click file save to folder and select the folder you want to save your file in

if you don't have an existing folder yet create a new one here

canva is all about helping you find inspiration browsing canva you might see elements you like photos illustrations or graphics you want to save for future reference

to do that simply select the element and click the information icon and either save your element in an existing folder or add it to the likes folder

shortcuts are a great way to get reoccurring tasks done faster let's take a look at some of the most popular shortcuts in canva

before we do that let's get a few keyboard basics covered first if you're using a mac you'll be using the command key if you're working on a pc you'll be using the ctrl key instead

did you know you can add basic elements to your project with one click tap c to create a circle r to get a rectangle and l to get a line and use all the features in the toolbar to customize your element

now let's take a look at a few shortcuts to add and style text on the go

to add text to your project tap the t key on your keyboard to style your text tap ctrl or command b to make your copy bold ctrl or command i to italicize it and control or command u to underline it aligning text is just as easy tap command shift r to align your text to the right command shift c to align it to the center or command shift l to align it to the left

when you're working on complex designs isolating specific elements in your project can be tricky to select all of your elements at once click command or control a to select multiple elements click on them one by one by pressing the shift key alternatively you can select all of your elements with command or control a and then deselect specific elements by keeping shift pressed

to group multiple elements click command or control g to ungroup them click shift command or control g

if you have elements overlaid on top of each other you can easily send the top element to the back by clicking command or control open bracket to bring an element to the foreground click command or control plus bracket pretty easy right

there are multiple ways to duplicate elements you can click control or command c to copy an element and command or control v to paste it you can duplicate an element even faster by clicking command or control d it really doesn't get easier than this

you may want to zoom in to focus on specific parts of your design and zoom out to get a sense of what your design looks like as a whole use this slider at the bottom of the editor or click command or control plus to zoom in and command or control minus to zoom out

shortcuts can help you add a touch of magic to your presentations here are a few tricks to delight your viewers when in presentation mode want to build some anticipation before the big reveal press d for a drum roll

the drums are sure to make your announcements special are you asking your audience to do an activity to ensure everyone knows how much time they have press any number from one to 9 on your keyboard this will set a timer from 1 to 9 minutes are you announcing something top secret or perhaps you want to get your audience's attention in a playful way press q on your keyboard

silence in the room is guaranteed finally if you want to end your presentation on a celebratory note press c to unleash a shower of digital confetti on your slides these are only some of the amazing shortcuts that help you work smarter and faster in canva did you know that canva also makes it easy for teams to work and share ideas together watch the next video to learn more

ever wanted to create a digital report a landing page for your next fundraiser or an interactive newsletter for your non-profit canvas sites are the easy way to create search friendly single page websites that work across desktop tablet and mobile let's dive into canvas sites

on the home page click the sites icon or type website in the search bar

refine your search using the filters on the side panel to see a preview hover over the template click the three dots then preview this template this lets you scroll through the template without opening it and see similar templates

when you open a template in the editor check out the templates tab

here you can see all the pages that make up your template these are the building blocks of your canvas site to create your website select single pages in the order you like or apply all of the pages at once

to edit the structure click inside any one of your pages the bounding box lets you know it's selected and use the controls in the floating menu on the left you can move your page up or down duplicated or deleted you can add a blank page and populate it by selecting a page from the templates tab to adjust the length of your pages pull on the handle at the bottom

when the structure of your website is ready it's time to edit your content ungroup any grouped elements by right-clicking and selecting ungroup type into the text boxes to overwrite the template's copy

customize buttons by changing the call to action and the colors

to replace a background image select your new image or video and drag it to the edge of the page this will automatically set it as your new background if your image is in a frame drag and drop a new photo in the frame to change the background color of your page select the background and choose a new color

if you have your own brand kit already set up in canva go to styles and click on your fonts and colors to apply them to your canvas site select apply to all pages to make your website on brand with one click

to turn icons or words into clickable links select any element in your website and click the link icon or use the shortcut command k on mac or ctrl k on windows type in the url you want to link and then go to link to test it

we've branded our website and added links the next step is to make sure our canvas site works seamlessly across different devices click the preview button to see what your canvas site will look like on desktop tablet and mobile

scroll through your preview and test your links to make sure everything is correct your canvas site is now ready to go live the only thing left to do is publish your website watch the next video for tips on how to do that

your canvas site is done now it's time to share it with the world let's find out how to publish your canvas site

when you're ready to go live click the publish button you have three options you can use a free canva domain buy a domain through canva or if you're a pro user and have an existing domain you can connect it to your canvas site

if you choose the free domain option your domain will be assigned to you automatically and will end in my.canva.site

you can still customize aspects of your website you can add a subdomain and edit the title of your canvas site this will show up in google searches and will appear on user's browser tab

remember to add a favicon too this can be your logo or a visual element that helps people recognize your website tab at a glance add a short description of your website this will show up when users search for your website online you can protect your canvas site with a password which canva will share with you when you publish your site if you don't want your canvas site to be found through online searches check this box to hide it from search engines when you're ready hit the publish button your brand new canvas site will be up and running in seconds

if you decide to purchase a new domain through canva select the second option type in your desired domain and click claim to confirm if the domain you want isn't available it may be already in use by another organization canva will suggest similar options choose the one that works best for your needs and claim it to move forward fill out the form with all your details

and customize your subdomain the title of your site and your site description when you're done click continue and add your payment details to publish your canvas site

if you already have a domain for your website you can connect it to your canvas site type in your domain and click continue to verify it

you can always edit your canvas site after you've published it to do this open the project in the editor and click the edit design button this will unlock the project and allow you to make any changes you want once you're done with your edits hit the publish button and then continue to publish your updated website your url will stay the same as you update your canvas site you may want to update your site title and description if not simply click through to publish your website

if you have multiple domains you can manage them easily go to your account settings and tap domains in the side panel you'll see an overview of your domains and the canvas sites link to each domain from here you can unlink your designs make edits or view your canvas sites creating stunning websites has become a whole lot easier with canva what canvas site are you going to create next

first go to the app store or google play and download the canva app on your mobile device if you already have a canva pro account log in all your desktop content your assets and folders will sync up the only thing left to do is start exploring

the canva app is perfect for creating when you're on the go start inspired by using the search box or the categories at the top to help you find the right template for your project whether it's a social media post a presentation a video or even a website you can do it all from your smartphone and tablet to continue working on an existing document go to recent designs or open the menu in the toolbar to browse your folders to go back to the home page simply tap the home icon

let's create a social media post to see how easy it is to create content on the go open a template to edit any element tap it change the background image by tapping on it this will bring up a set of features to help you edit it hit replace and go to the photos tab to search for a new image

when you find the one you like tap it to import it into your project to adjust the image double tap and pinch in or out to resize it reposition it by dragging it with your finger next let's edit the text tap inside a text box and type in your content

tap the delete button to remove any text you don't need now let's style our text tap color and choose the one that makes our text easier to read tap font and choose the one that's more on brand

for even more contrast go to format and make the text all cap to add new elements to the project tap the plus button and slide the toolbar at the bottom tap the logos tab and select our logo reposition it by dragging it to the top left hand corner and pull on the corner handle to resize it and there we have it our post is ready

save the project to an existing folder by tapping the three dots and then save to folder or create a new one

when you're ready to share your project tap the icon in the top right hand corner from here you can download your project to your device share it with others on your team or use canvas scheduling feature to post it on your social media with canva the possibilities are endless want to know more about the canva app check out our canva on your mobile video series for a deep dive

communicating data in a compelling way is crucial for any non-profit in this video you'll see how to show your impact using data with canva

click the more tab in the toolbar and find charts this shows you all the types of charts you can create progress charts are great to show how far you've come pictograms help you tell a visual story with your data for example with an infographic bar charts make comparisons easy and pie charts and donut charts are great for breaking down a hole into multiple parts

we want to show our donors how our nonprofit spends its money start by selecting a pie chart by default our pie chart is broken down into five equal parts we can overwrite this information by typing into the data cells we can edit the labels and the data by right-clicking inside the table we can add or remove rows and columns if you already have your data laid out in a google sheet you can connect it to your canva to import your data set

this will allow you to update your canva chart as you update the data in your google sheet

once you have added your data it's time to style your chart

the settings tab gives you control over how your data is presented you can show the data as numbers or percentages and remove the labels altogether for a cleaner look to make your chart on brand change the font

the color of your labels

as well as the colors of your chart

want to try a different type of chart for your data you don't need to recreate your chart from scratch simply open the drop down menu at the top and experiment with different charts pretty easy right

in the editor go to the elements tab and swipe through the options at the top until you find table click see all to view all the options or you can design a table with our magic shortcut hit forward slash on your keyboard this brings up a list of handy elements like text lines arrows select table and pick the number of columns and rows you need

to fill out your table select a cell and enter your info and hit tab to easily move across the cells you have an existing data set copy your data from your spreadsheet

then select the cell in the top left hand corner and paste the data by clicking command v if you're on a mac or ctrl v if you're on a pc the table will automatically add new columns and rows to match your data set

with your basic table in place it's time to customize it let's find out how to change the size of your table click and hold any of the corner handles and drag up to make your table taller or to the side to make it wider if you want to keep the same proportions keep shift pressed as you drag to move the table around in your project click and hold the move pointer below the table or click and hold inside a cell and move the table do you need to add or remove columns select any cell you'll notice two floating tabs with three dots the top one will select the whole column and the one on the side will select the entire row let's click on the top one to see what changes we can make we can add a column to the left or to the right if you click delete this column the column itself will disappear

it's time to work on the look and feel of our table click on the move pointer to select the entire table the toolbar gives you plenty of options you can change the font size

and color of your text

you can also change the color of your table

to style specific columns or rows select the first cell hold shift and click the last cell in the column or row you can now style the column on its own

you can also style the borders of your cells you can change the color and thickness of your borders

in the editor drag the video into the side panel to upload it into canva

next open the notes box and paste in our video transcript

now that our assets are ready we need to split our video into scenes so we can add subtitles later to keep our subtitles short we'll break this video into five scenes play the video in the timeline and hit space bar to stop where you want to split it want to help save our ocean from plastic pollution right-click and select split repeat this process to split the rest of the video to suit your subtitles

first we want to place our subtitles in a safe area that is readable across our scenes go to file and then show rulers and guides or press shift r on your keyboard move your mouse over the ruler at the top of your document then click and hold to drag down your guide create two guides to define a safe area for your subtitles now copy the transcript from the notes and paste it into our first scene you can change the font

color

and size of the text

finally to make sure your subtitles are readable go to effects then background you can change the color of the background the transparency

and the roundness of the corners

now copy the subtitles and paste them into the next scene

change the text

adapt the length of your lines and repeat the process for the other scenes in the video

let's open a blank presentation next to the template panel click layouts here you can find plenty of preset layouts to help you structure your content whether it be a section title slide the agenda for your next meeting a summary of key points a chart with your research findings a timeline for your project or a visual list of all your contributors

all you need to do now is customize the content of each slide

an easy way to filter layouts is with the categories at the top of the panel just slide through until you find the kind of layout you need

to clear the filter and go back to all layouts simply click the x in the search box

layouts do much more than set up the structure of your content you can also customize them to reflect the look and feel of your brand if you have a brand kit set up in canva you'll see a palette icon in the search box select brand and choose your brand kit select the main background color and click apply

on the home page click start from a file and upload your powerpoint

you can also click create a design and then import file

look for the file under the designs tab your powerpoint can now be edited in canva

that means you can edit text

replace pictures

when you first open your powerpoint in canva you might see that some elements have moved if the layout is different move the elements back to the correct position if your fonts look different that means the fonts used in the powerpoint are not in your canva fonts canva replaces these fonts with a close match if you're not happy with the font select your text find a more suitable font and click change all to apply it across the slides with one click

finally if your file includes a chart but you can't see it after you've imported the file look at the side panel if you see the data go to the chart settings and switch them on and off this will show your chart

once you've edited your file you can share it with your team

or create an open link which anyone can access and set permissions to view comment or edit

this will allow people to collaborate leave feedback and edit the presentation

to download your presentation go to share then download and select an option from the menu
