Muscular dystrophy is a neuromuscular disorder resulting in the deterioration of muscle strength and function. This genetic condition, in its 70 variations, affects 20,000 Australians. Muscular Dystrophy Western Australia fundraises research, provides service for patients and supports their families. Brianna O’Donnell is MDWA’s Communications Manager. She coordinates online content and promotes awareness for Muscular Dystrophy. Brianna and the MDWA team used Canva Pro to promote Ride For Someone Who Can’t, their annual mountain bike challenge.

Participants sweat through a 40km or 100km mountain bike marathon as part of Ride For Someone Who Can’t. The #rfswc2015 campaign raised just under $90,000, which will assist Western Australians affected by Muscular Dystrophy. Brianna believes these new Canva-made designs made a difference in their fundraising efforts. For MDWA’s small team the biggest challenge is crafting visual content quickly, while keeping designs creative and fresh.
“Canva has helped us so much in a very short space of time,” Brianna says. “We can whip up a facebook post or banner with a few clicks and the design is on-trend. A big plus is that even if you use one of the designs that aren’t free, it’s so much more affordable than other stock sites.”

Canva Pro has helped us work more efficiently and economically,” Brianna says. “In our small team when we work back to back events trying to raise awareness and funds, that is hugely important. I know we are only ever going to find more uses for Canva, more ways of being creative and maximising our reach.”
