Reflecting on a defining year for Canva

As our biggest year yet comes to a close, we took a moment to recap some of our favorite highlights and milestones from 2022.

This has been an undoubtedly defining year for design and visual communication. Whether it's a major brand rolling out a new marketing campaign, a business owner turning an idea into reality or a student getting creative with classroom projects – the visual economy is omnipresent. From small businesses scaling to become national franchises to nonprofits sparking change, classrooms embracing digital literacy and enterprise organizations improving collaboration and brand awareness – design is all around us.

It’s also been another defining and record year for Canva as we continue delivering on our mission to empower the world to design. From new product launches to exciting growth milestones and heartwarming stories from our community, as another year comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to recap some of our favourite memories and highlights from our biggest year yet.

1. We unveiled Canva’s Visual Worksuite at our biggest event yet

We marked a momentous step forward in Canva's mission to truly empower everyone to design anything with the launch of our new Visual Worksuite at our first global Canva Create event earlier this year. We’ve been amazed by the innovative ways millions of people around the world are bringing their ideas and creativity to life with our new Docs, Whiteboards, Presentations, Videos and Websites products.

Fun fact – more than a billion presentations have now been created with Canva. That’s 40 presentations for every person in Australia! 🎉

2. We celebrated the milestone of 100 million people using Canva every month

In October, we celebrated the incredible milestone of more than 100 million people using Canva every month. We couldn’t have achieved any of these milestones without our community, and as 2022 comes to a close, we’ve now surpassed more than 110 million people and counting! From Australia to Mozambique and everywhere in between, thank you for being 1 in 100 million.

3. We unveiled Canva for Teams

As visual communication becomes table stakes for teams of every size, we introduced Canva for Teams to empower any kind of team to create great visual content while improving productivity, brand awareness, team culture, and collaboration. From Zoom to Hubspot, it’s been amazing to see millions of teams around the world using Canva to collaborate on everything from documents to websites, videos and presentations.

4. We launched some magical new features

We couldn’t end such a defining year without one final surprise! We recently launched a few magical new products including Text to Image which helps anyone to create one-of-a-kind content faster than ever before (more than 15 million images have been generated!) and Magic Write which makes creating documents even easier by turning ideas into first drafts in just seconds.

5. We welcomed more than 1,000 newbies to the Canva team

We’ve continued building the team that builds Canva, with more than 1,000 newbies joining us from across the globe; bringing the Canva team to just over 3,400 people across Austin, San Francisco, Beijing, Wuhan, Sydney, Manila, London, Vienna, Prague, Melbourne and more.

6. We unveiled Canva Represents

This year, we introduced Canva Represents as part of our mission to build the most diverse content library in the world. Through the program, more than 41 artists have contributed to a 26.4% increase in diverse content across Canva. We're looking forward to expanding our program next year with more artists and even more great content.

7. We celebrated 300,000 nonprofits using Canva for free

We recently increased the number of free seats for eligible nonprofits from 10 to 50 people, and today, more than 300,000 nonprofits across the globe, from American Cancer Society to Giving Tuesday, are using Canva to spread awareness and share their stories of impact.

8. We hit the milestone of 25 million students and teachers using Canva for free

More than 25 million students and teachers are now using Canva for Education to collaborate and communicate visually in the classroom. This is a huge step forward in our investment in the future of creativity in the classroom and is something we’re incredibly excited to continue delivering on for many years to come.

9. We made big leaps towards our sustainability goals

Through our One Print, One Tree program, and thanks to all of your print orders, this year we planted over 1.3 million trees in a number of sites in Kenya, Mozambique, the Philippines, Tanzania, Brazil and more. There’s plenty more to come, with more than 5 million trees to be planted in 2023.

10. We continued making strides towards our Two-Step Plan

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made towards our huge opportunity and incredible responsibility to do the most good we can do in the world; from growing the number of people using our free Canva for Education and Canva for Nonprofit subscriptions to launching crisis relief programs in Afghanistan and Ukraine, to continuing our work with GiveDirectly in Southern Africa.

However, the thing about “doing the most good we can” is we can only ever continuously strive towards it, we are never done. We only ever feel like we are scratching the surface of what’s possible in this space and we’re excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

Thank you for being part of our community

In a world where visual communication has never been more important, we’re continually blown away by the exceptional and innovative ways more than 110 million are using Canva to unlock their creativity and achieve their goals. These milestones wouldn’t be possible without you.

Thank you for being a part of our global community and for bringing your creativity to life with Canva in so many unique and inspiring ways. We can’t wait to share more exciting milestones together for many years to come.
