Introducing Canva’s biggest education launch

We're thrilled to unveil our biggest education product launch ever. Today, we’re introducing a whole new suite of products that turn Canva into the all-in-one classroom tool educators have been waiting for.

Four years ago, we launched Canva for Education with the belief that every student and teacher should be empowered with the best technology to unlock their creativity through digital and design literacy. Most importantly, we believed this technology shouldn’t just be limited to the schools that can afford it – that’s why we made Canva for Education completely free for K-12 schools across the globe.

Today, more than 50 million students and teachers use Canva to bring their ideas to life. As we celebrate that milestone, we’re incredibly excited to unveil our biggest launch ever as we elevate Canva for Education(opens in a new tab or window) into a comprehensive teaching and learning platform for every kind of classroom.

This update brings a host of new goodies to our education community, including a new library of over 5,000 customizable classroom resources – featuring detailed, ready-to-teach curriculum lessons developed in collaboration with experts like NASA and The New York Times – through to advanced accessibility features, and a suite of AI tools to streamline lesson planning and boost student creativity. Let’s dive into the details.

Introducing Classroom Magic: A suite of AI tools for the classroom

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is unlocking endless opportunities for teachers and students to supercharge their creativity, save time(opens in a new tab or window) on mundane work, and discover new ways of thinking in an increasingly visual world. Our recent AI in Education survey(opens in a new tab or window) revealed that more than three-quarters of teachers are eager to bring AI into the classroom, but 93% of them don’t know where to start – which is why we’re committed to providing teachers with safe and seamless access to these tools.

Earlier this year, we shared how we were introducing this technology for teachers with the launch of tools like Magic Write designed to help streamline tasks, inspire creativity, and free up time for important work. Today, we’re excited to take this a step further with the launch of a suite of new artificial intelligence tools designed with privacy, trust, and safety(opens in a new tab or window) at the forefront.

These new tools are available to both students and teachers, making Canva for Education one of the world’s first learning platforms to introduce artificial intelligence for students. While students are opted out by default, district administrators(opens in a new tab or window) will have the option of enabling these new products, and teachers will have automatic access.

Magic Write

Free up time for your most important work with Magic Write(opens in a new tab or window) as your new AI-powered assistant.

Enter a simple prompt to generate a first draft, reword complex content to suit different learning styles or summarize text to be more comprehensible. You can also adapt content to different reading levels to further individualize the learning process.

For districts that choose to enable Magic Write at a student level, students can get a head-start on writing tasks, expand on ideas, rewrite content to suit different formats and develop their comprehension skills through intentionally crafted prompts.

Magic Animate

Turn classroom materials into engaging and captivating videos and presentations. Automatically animate your designs and enhance entire pages with just one click. Magic Animate(opens in a new tab or window) creates eye-catching transitions to bring your work to life in an instant. Students can create their own animations to transform their assignments into engaging classroom presentations.

Magic Grab

Redesign teaching materials and class projects with Magic Grab(opens in a new tab or window). Simply select the subject of your image to edit, reposition, or resize it. You can also use Grab Text to quickly extract and modify text from photos of documents or screenshots. It’s perfect for grabbing the text from a photo of a whiteboard, or a paper-based resource, rather than rewriting everything manually.

Resize & Magic Switch

Reformat your teaching materials, class projects, and assignments in an instant. Now, you can transform the content of presentations into summarized documents, or turn a whiteboard of ideas into a fully-fledged presentation. With Resize & Magic Switch(opens in a new tab or window) in your toolkit, you’ll banish time-consuming and mundane tasks and win back more time for teaching and learning.

Translate

Make teaching and learning easy in more than 100 different languages. Translate(opens in a new tab or window) your teaching materials with just one click. Perfect for learning and teaching new languages!

Alt Text Suggestions

Say goodbye to guesswork and hello to instant accessibility. With Text Suggestions, you can instantly generate captions and tags for images and videos to ensure every design is accessible to every learner’s needs.

Canva Shield: Our commitment to AI safety at school

We’re committed to ensuring Canva is a safe, private, and secure tool for the classroom. As part of our mission to equip every classroom with the best technology to unlock creativity, we’re providing each school district with the option of choosing if or when to enable these products for their students.

We know Canva is likely to be the first interaction teachers have with this technology and we take that responsibility incredibly seriously. We’ve also invested heavily in technology that ensures this new suite of tools is safe and appropriate for the classroom. With Canva Shield(opens in a new tab or window), we’re introducing a range of strict safety measures to provide students and teachers with peace of mind when using AI in the classroom. From robust trust and safety features to reporting functionality, automatic content moderation, and stringent student and teacher data protection, you’re in good hands. We’re also rolling out a number of additional classroom-specific safety measures including:

  • Advanced Educator Controls: School administrators are able to set access permissions to these AI tools based on what they’re comfortable with.
  • Automatic Reviews: We use advanced technology to automatically review input prompts to prevent the creation of any inappropriate content.
  • Blocked Terms: As an additional precaution, we’ve blocked more than 10,000 words from being used in AI prompts to ensure content is safe for the classroom.
  • Reporting Options: We provide the ability to report and block any potentially unwanted terms or content.

Introducing Canva’s Lesson Builder

You can now seamlessly plan, build, and teach fully sequenced lessons without ever leaving Canva with the launch of Canva’s Lesson Builder(opens in a new tab or window). Complete the lessons together in class, or share your lesson with your students to work through in their own time. You can also revamp your existing teaching materials by simply uploading files (including PDFs and presentations!) and arranging them into a customized lesson plan without leaving Canva.
