Reflecting On A Huge Year: 2021 By The Numbers

As this milestone year comes to a close, let’s take a moment to recap some of our highlights.


It’s been a defining year for Canva and our community as we continue on our mission to empower the world to design. The visual economy is booming with individual creators, small businesses, teams and enterprises embracing the power of photos, presentations, videos and even sound to communicate visually and achieve their goals. As this milestone year comes to a close, let’s take a moment to recap some of our highlights. Here’s how 2021 finished up, by the numbers.

Our community got bigger and bigger

Our community has rapidly grown to over 75 million people in more than 190 countries who are using Canva every month to unlock their creativity and achieve their goals. From small business owners to teachers, students, content creators and teams of every size – thank you for designing with Canva.

Our team doubled

There are now just over 2,500 amazing Canvanauts with more than 1,350 starting this year alone. With teams working from Austin, San Francisco, Beijing, Wuhan, Sydney, Manila, London and more, we’re now a truly global company.

Nurturing up and coming talent

We welcomed 107 interns into our three-month program that’s all about learning, building a professional network and taking on real-world projects that drive impact for our community across the globe.

Making Internet moves

Our Alexa rating has catapulted to #34, up from #97 in January.

3.5 billion reasons to smile

A whopping 3.5 billion designs were created with Canva in 2021. To put that in perspective, a TOTAL of 8 billion designs have been created with Canva. From infographics to posters, videos, presentations and social media posts – it’s been a busy year for the Canva editor!

Designing one slide at a time

Our community created 227 million presentations as they embrace the power of visual communication to help their ideas stand out.

Video emerged as a powerful medium

Video is becoming increasingly important in the workplace and online and there were 480 million video publishes this year. We also launched Canva Video Suite.(opens in a new tab or window)

Apple App Store Award(opens in a new tab or window). We were recognised for bringing people together in meaningful ways. It’s astonishing to think that more than 23 designs are now being created every second with Canva’s iPhone and iPad apps.

We love our furry friends

Office pets are a constant source of joy and there are pleasingly 503 furry friends at Canva.

There was plenty to celebrate

We love celebrating our successes and have dished out more than 14,000 #kudos messages across the team.

We stayed connected

As avid Slack users, we sent over 36 million messages to each other this year.

Doing good in the world

As part of our Two-Step Plan(opens in a new tab or window), we launched our first pilot program with GiveDirectly(opens in a new tab or window) where we’ve begun distributing $10 million to some of the world’s poorest people in Southern Africa.

Making progress on our crazy big sustainability goals

We’ve planted 1 million trees through our One Print, One Tree program(opens in a new tab or window) where we’ve committed to planting a tree for every print order ever placed with Canva.

Giving back to the community

We produced over 100,000 meals for OzHarvest, Canice's Kitchen, Wayside Chapel as well as displaced Filipino Jeepney drivers. Nothing makes us happier than giving back to the community and making the world a better place.

Banding together

Together with SafetyCulture, Airtasker, Airtree Ventures and Blackbird Ventures, we contributed $2.1 million through Tech For India, a philanthropic program to source and purchase oxygen and other medical supplies in India at the height of the pandemic. 889 oxygen units were distributed across 79 districts in need.
