Meet our brand new Melbourne campus
We’re incredibly excited to have opened our brand new Collingwood campus for our growing team of more than 300 Victorians.
We’re incredibly excited to share that we’ve opened the doors to our newest Canva campus, a brand new two-story collaborative space in Collingwood, Melbourne. Developed with community in mind, the campus is a new home for our growing team of more than 300 Victorian Canvanauts.
The importance of connection
At Canva, we strongly believe in empowering our teams to choose to work in a way that best suits them. We also know that through connection comes community, so it’s immensely important for us to provide a space where our team can opt to come together in person to connect, share ideas and spark creativity.
Our new 2,015 sqm light-filled Melbourne campus offers plenty of space for our growing team to enjoy, with the two-story warehouse home to hundreds of workstations, an open-plan breakout space fit for hosting large events, meeting rooms to fit all sizes and a variety of meeting booths for those seeking individual focus time.
Our team can also make use of a bespoke dedicated coaching space, fantastic end-of-trip facilities, a kitchen with large communal dining tables, and a spacious parents' room complete with toys and a baby change station for team members who want to bring their children to work.
Selected with sustainability in mind
Having outgrown our previous co-working space, a shift to a larger environment to accommodate our growing team was inevitable, though we’ve been very intentional about the space we’ve chosen. Finding environments that reflect our values is so important and we always strive to choose spaces that require low-touch fit-outs, causing minimal environmental and community impact. Our Collingwood site does exactly that – we were able to preserve the cityscape and all of its warehouse glory while adding some touches of Canva vibe!
Adding Canva flair
Our new campus location epitomizes the Canva vibe, similar to our Surry Hills campus in Sydney – but with a uniquely Melbourne flavor. Not only is it in close proximity to the CBD, but it’s surrounded by a thriving arts and culture community made up of amazing galleries, cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and boutique stores nearby, as well as being just a short walk from the legendary Smith and Gertrude Streets.
To bring this to life, we’ve brought specially crafted experiences to the space. Our in-house chef is serving up team lunches at our Communal Table three days a week; we have an in-house swag station to kit out our teams with the latest gear; and we’re using our large Town Hall area to host memorable events and celebrations such as our recent Canva Create watch party and our upcoming Off-Season Queer Talks, an in-person community event exploring inclusivity, allyship and how you can express queerness at work all year round.
We’ve added some vibrant color to our space with an incredible custom mural painted across our room divider designed by Canvanaut Jackson Farley, and some beautiful Indigenous artwork fills our walls from Milingimbi Art and Culture based out of the Northern Territory – an Indigenous-owned nonprofit that supports First Nations artists.
We’ve also turned the existing car parks into a communal campus garden complete with herbs and vegetables to fuel our kitchen, and like our Sydney campus, all produce will be sourced locally. As you’d expect, we’ve also decorated our space with plenty of plants and greenery.
Harnessing community
Having impact in the community is incredibly important to Canva, with everything from our 1% Pledge to our Force for Good Fridays, donation matching and volunteering leave all playing a role in our 2-Step Plan. Since July, we’ve had over 80 Melbourne team members support six nonprofits through Force for Good Fridays, and we can’t wait to see that number grow in the months to come.
We can’t wait to get involved in our local community! So far, we’ve partnered with local Collingwood gallery James Makin Gallery to help us source and showcase beautiful local artists and contemporary artworks to display. All works are available for purchase with all sales going directly to the galleries, and we can’t wait to host artist activations in our space in the future.
Design is at the heart of what we do, so we’re also excited to have partnered with Melbourne’s very own Design Outlook Conference to facilitate an open house industry meet-up session at our Collingwood campus, featuring a panel discussion with industry-leading designers.
Experience Canva for yourself
Our Melbourne community is loving the new space – and we have room for more! We’ve welcomed 1,400 new Canvanauts over the past year and we’re truly fortunate to have an exciting time ahead at Canva.
