10 highlights from Canva Create 2022
The Canva Create global event revealed some of the exciting ways we’re evolving our products and programs to help you unlock your creativity and achieve your goals.
If you want to succeed in today’s visual-first world, you’ll need the right tools to make you shine.
Whether you’re marketing your small business, trying to create a standout school project, volunteering at a nonprofit, or creating a dazzling social media post, it’s never been more critical to let your visuals do the talking. And this trend isn’t slowing down.
This was the theme of our first global event, Canva Create 2022: The Future is Visual.
During the course of 90 minutes, we unveiled the new Visual Worksuite: a set of new and existing products available for free within Canva that were built to empower you and your team to succeed, be it in the boardroom or the classroom. It’s our mission to empower the world to design, and we took a big step forward today by increasing the ways Canva can help you communicate visually to drive impact.
Here are 10 things shared at Canva Create 2022, our biggest moment yet!
We unveiled Canva Docs
We’re incredibly excited to unveil a brand new way to create visually compelling documents. With Canva Docs, launching in Beta later this year, you'll find all the Canva tools you know and love, combined with familiar text editing and formatting options, plus a range of new features designed to maximize productivity and collaboration.
We’re excited for Docs to become a place to house all of your plans, designs, and other communications. While there, you’ll be able to access our content library of more than 100 million design assets, or add in any of your other designs such as Presentations, Videos, Charts, or Whiteboards so everything’s in one place.
You’ll also be able to add to-do lists, share comments and actions, all while collaborating with your team in real time. And with one click, you can turn a Canva Doc into a fully-fledged Presentation and share it online as a branded link, and even get view and engagement insights.

We launched Canva Websites
If you’ve ever wanted to launch a website, it seems like a daunting process. But gone are the days of clunky editing, expensive hosting, and uneditable web designs – all of which you’ve had to learn on your own.
With the launch of Canva Websites, you can turn your documents, presentations, and even PDFs into simple, responsive Websites. Once you’ve built your website, you can share content like a press release, resume or a class assignment as a secure customized link to clients, teachers, or anyone you’d ordinarily send a document to. We believe this is the future of content sharing – a world where information is anchored in visuals and is dynamic, secure, and looks beautiful on any device.
Canva’s Website builder has hundreds of templates and access to our full library of content. It also has a few extra features such as responsive device previews where you can add or purchase a branded domain from within Canva; and the ability to keep your site private by adding a password and hiding it from search engines.
Once your website’s published, track views, clicks, and engagement with new Websites Insights.
Get your ideas flowing with our infinite Whiteboards
Our recently announced Whiteboards product lets you collaboratively shape and explore your ideas, and gives you an infinite canvas to do it on.
Just like a real-life whiteboard, Canva Whiteboards are made for people to jump in and add their thoughts – except instead of a couple of people with markers, you can invite your whole team to brainstorm with you.
Of course, we’re also giving you access to Canva’s 100 million photos, illustrations, and videos to help map your ideas visually. And to simulate but also enhance real-life whiteboarding, we provide sticky notes, synced timers, diagramming and flowchart tools, name-displaying cursors, and new workshop templates.
You can now remove backgrounds in Video with just one click
Since launching back in 2021, more than 1 billion videos have been created using Canva – and we’re just getting started.
Canva Create saw the unveiling of a brand new, one-click Video Background Remover to all Pro, Teams, Education, and Nonprofit users – making it faster, easier and more fun than ever to create professional-looking content, effortlessly. We’ve also added even more features and customizable elements to make your videos stand out – including soon being able to turn any design into a video with just a few clicks!
We also shared our incredible new animation features that can be used across video and presentations, with more features coming soon to level up your animations.
Presentations just got more cinematic than ever
We’ve introduced a range of new Presentations features to make them as beautiful, compelling, and engaging as possible.
Start with either one of our thousands of templates, or as of today, import any PDF, Powerpoint, or Illustrator file to automatically re-create your existing content in Canva! You’ll also soon be able to switch between storyboard-like thumbnails – which are perfect for creating designs, presentations, or simply looking at your video from a bird’s eye view – and just like that, into a timeline video editor. That way, your music can be synced and everything is timed perfectly. You’ll have all of the power of animations, transitions, and audio in your presentation.
Present collaboratively from anywhere with the new Remote Control feature (no more “next slide, please”), or asynchronously with a recorded Talking Presentation. You can also embed stunning advanced data visualizations, expand a slide into a Whiteboard to more extensively map out your ideas, and monitor your presentation’s engagement through new design insights.
You can print lots more items, and choose to have them delivered or pick up in-store
It’s easier than ever to bring your digital designs to the real world. You can now print more than 35 different items through Canva Print, from business cards to uniforms, photo books, posters, stickers, hoodies, and more.
When you’re ready to print, you’ll automatically be alerted to elements that might be cut off or images that have low resolution, ensuring a perfect print every time. You can also choose to have them delivered to your door, or if you’re in the U.S., in-store pick up at a local Fedex Office store, or Staples for Canadian-based users, both for free.
Sustainability is important to us, so we partner with printers around the world who are committed to this, and also plant a tree for every print order placed through our One Print, One Tree reforestation program. Through this program, more than 2.4 million trees have been planted, with an additional 5 million trees planned for the rest of 2022 – that’s about the same as the number of trees as in New York City.
Instantly generate the image you’re imagining, in Canva
We’re excited to introduce the Text to Image app powered by Stable Diffusion into Canva, letting you create unique images from a simple description in seconds. Grab something straight from your imagination and turn it into a professional photo, make a 3D image without having to learn any difficult software, or create an image of something that you could never even take a photo of.
We launched two new marketplaces, for creators and developers
We're also launching two new marketplaces to be an even bigger part of our future. To do so we're opening our platform and content library to our global community to build the world’s best visual communication platform.
Our newly announced Canva Creators program empowers creatives everywhere to design and publish templates to Canva. More than 3,000 Beta Canva Creators are already helping to diversify our library while making an income from their work.
We’re also partnering with the world’s best developers, freelancers, and integration partners to build new apps, design features, product integrations, or workflows. At Canva Create, we introduced the beta of App Marketplace, built on the new Canva API, and we’re now opening the doors to Canva’s design engine to developers.
Our vision is to become the world’s most pluggable platform as we unlock the full power of visual communication in partnership with the world's best developers. If this sounds exciting to you, sign up to register your interest to join the App Marketplace here.
Canva is empowering teams across the globe to have a global impact
At Canva, our goal is to make sure every person and group on the planet can become exceptional visual communicators. That’s why we’ve expanded our Canva for Education offering beyond teachers and classrooms to entire K-12 school districts worldwide, with no hidden costs; and made Canva for Teams free for eligible nonprofits, now for up to 50 team seats.
Elizabeth Shell, Creative Director, Audience at USA Today shared how Canva changed the game when it comes to how quickly they could produce breaking news, especially video.
Kathleen Murphy from one of the biggest nonprofit networks on the planet, Giving Tuesday, spoke about how Canva has beena game-changer for their ability to create and collaborate with each other, transforming and amplifying the impact of their work. The social media templates they create are so far-reaching they’re even used by the international space station!
Liz Johnson of Wirreanda Public School in Medowie, NSW, described the Canva for Education platform as the key to students learning in a visually dynamic way that will set them up for real-world success in the future.
Our Canva community is *incredibly* talented
We’re constantly blown away by our community’s talent, and the caliber of what they’re creating with Canva every day. This is why we also unveiled the inaugural Canva Community Awards, presenting accolades for inspiring individuals, impactful teams, and incredible innovators using Canva.
Canva Community Award winners Dr Tererai Trent, Zolo, and Heather Lamb.
The winners were:
Inspiring individual: Dr Tererai Trent for her use of Canva to create generational change for girls in Zimbabwe. Tererai used Canva to create website, social media, and thank-you graphics to fundraise over $100,000 to create a brighter future for girls in her community, and is already seeing tangible shifts and new opportunities as a direct result.
Impactful team: Zolo, a sustainability startup tackling environmental issues by creating a circular economy for old tech, funding high-impact climate action in Australia, and connecting tech to kids and communities in need. Zolo has already prevented over 800 tonnes of electronic waste from getting dumped in landfill. Canva was instrumental throughout Zolo’s journey, from brand identity to social content, to winning investor pitch decks.
Incredible innovator: Heather Lamb, head librarian at Castleberry Independent District School, Texas, for using Canva to design a bus! "Mo" the mobile library bus was wrapped in Heather’s Canva design, and now every summer tours communities and inspires the love of reading. 7,000 books and over 450 meals have been distributed so far to families in Texas by Mo!
Honorary mention and a special ‘Canva Love’ award was also given to Roger Coles for his Living in a Canva Paradise music video (one of our favorite pieces of content created in Canva ever).
To sum up
The future is visual – but it doesn’t need to be intimidating! It’s always been our mission to empower anyone to design anything, and with our Visual Worksuite of enterprise-grade visual communication products built with everyone in mind, we’re getting closer.
The future begins now!
