Tumblr is a great micro-blogging platform where users can share a wide variety of content—photos, text posts, quotes, articles, GIFs, videos and audio. You can even “reblog” content from other users. Although not traditionally counted as a social network, Tumblr users are certainly active, churning out an estimated 158 billion published posts since its start.

Avatar

A Tumblr “avatar” is basically your profile photo. It’s a square image that best displays at 128 x 128 pixels. Your avatar will also appear as a thumbnail next to your post, when displayed on your feed or your followers’ feed.

Banner

When people click on your avatar within the dashboard, they will be able to see a preview of your Tumblr blog as well as your blog banner. Having an interesting and unique banner image is important for attracting more followers to your blog. Tumblr banners will display at various sizes and look best with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Tumblr banners will display as a 3000 x 1055 pixels from the desktop dashboard and 640 x 360 pixels for mobile and dashboard popovers.
