Connect Canva to D2L
After you get Canva Education for your school, you can connect it to D2L so teachers and students can access Canva from your learning management system (LMS). Use LTI 1.3 unless your school specifically requires LTI 1.1
Before you set up D2L, enable LMS integration in your Canva account. If you haven’t done this yet, see Connecting Canva to LMS. Then follow the section in this article that matches the LTI version you selected.
Confirm you're in the correct Canva team
Before setting up the LMS integration, make sure you’re in the right team first.
- For single schools or district Canva teams, check if you’re in the school or district team.
- For multi-school deployments, an organisation admin configures the LMS at the organisation level.

Make your school team discoverable
You can make your school team publicly discoverable so other teachers and students at your school can find and request to join it.
- From the homepage, go to Settings.
- Select Controls.
- Under Team access, click the dropdown and select ‘Anyone an request to join’.
- Add your school team details.
- Select Confirm.
Once your School team is discoverable, teachers and students can search for your school and request to join.
Tip: Your School team is private by default. Only make it discoverable if you want others at your school to find and join your team.
As the team owner, you'll get email notifications when someone wants to join your School team. You can accept or decline membership requests. You can also add another admin to help approve or reject requests.
Which LTI version should I use?
We recommend LTI 1.3 for improved security and features. Use LTI 1.1 only if required by your school.
Can teachers and students access Canva directly from D2L?
Yes. After setup, users can access Canva from the course navigation and embed designs in assignments.
Do I need to set this up for each course?
You can choose which courses have access to Canva during setup. You can enable it for all courses or selected ones.
What if I manage multiple schools?
For multi-school setups, an organisation admin should configure the LMS connection at the organisation level.
Why isn’t my school team appearing in search results?
Your team may not be discoverable yet. Check your team settings to make sure it’s set so others at your school can find and request to join it.
