New Canva Photo Editor
As of April 26, 2024, we have an exciting update to enhance your editing experience. Previously, you can switch between the old and new photo editors. But to provide a more streamlined and improved experience, we’ll automatically transition everyone to the new photo editor.
This means the old photo editor will no longer be accessible.
What can I do with the new photo editor?
Improve and customise your photos easily with this new experience's Magic Studio effects and filters, image colour adjustment tools, and cropping features. Learn more about them below:
- Using Background Remover
- Erasing or retouching photos
- Expanding images
- Using Magic Edit to add, replace, and modify photos
- Making your photo selectable and customisable with Magic Grab
- Selecting and editing the text in your photos with Grab Text
- Applying and removing filters
- Applying photo effects
- Adjusting image colour settings
- Crop photos instantly
When a photo is selected and the Edit button doesn’t appear, uploading and editing photos may have been disabled by your team’s brand controls. Contact your team administrators if you need access.
What happens to my edited photos from the old editor?
Your previously edited photos will be automatically upgraded to the new photo editor. You can continue to access, view, and edit them just like before.
When I switch to the new editor, I can’t edit the effects on my photos.
To ensure your designs stay as true to your original vision as possible, we've merged old effects used into your photos. This means your photos will look exactly as before when you switch to the new editor, but you won't be able to tweak those specific effects further.
If you want to adjust your filters and effects, you'll have two options:
- Add new effects on top of your photo.
- Or, return to your original photo to start fresh with your adjustments. To revert to your original photo, select your photo, then click Edit. You will notice a blue alert at the top of the side panel where you can revert to your original photo.
When I switch to the new editor, my photos don't appear the same.
If you switched to the new editor before April 26, you might notice the colours in your photos look a bit different. This happens with photos with filters and effects applied in our old editor. Our new technology uniquely handles these filters and effects, leading to the changes you see.
Where can I find some of the effects I previously used? I can’t find them.
We've made some changes to the editing apps from the old photo editor. But don't worry! In the new editor, you'll still have access to popular effects like Auto-Focus and Shadows. Additionally, we're always striving to bring you a wider range of captivating and top-notch effects to elevate your photo editing journey.
Can I still access and use the editing apps in the old photo editor?
Unfortunately, you won't be able to access the editing apps in the old photo editor. However, we've kept some popular effects like Auto-Focus and Shadows in the new photo editor. Plus, we're constantly working on adding more exciting and high-quality effects to enhance the photo editing experience.
How are we notified about this change?
You'll see this message when you edit your photos: "This current photo editor and related third-party apps won't be available from 26 April 2024. Upgrade to the new photo editor." Don't worry, the transition will be seamless, and you won't have to do anything. You'll enjoy your favourite features and functionalities in an upgraded environment.
As you explore the new Canva Photo Editor, keep an eye out for future updates and additional features that will continue to enhance your editing capabilities.
