Renew expired Canva domains
Domains purchased from Canva are registered through Tucows/OpenSRS and automatically renew annually, as long as we receive your payment before your subscription expires. Your domain will expire if your payment fails or no payment is received.
If auto-renew is on, we attempt to charge you even before your domain expires. To make sure your domain renews on time, turn on auto-renew. Learn more about managing your domains and auto-renewal.
What can I do during the grace period?
When your domain expires, your website won’t load anymore. It will enter a grace period of 40 days. During this period, you can still renew your domain by paying the standard domain renewal fee through your Canva account.
You can renew your domain on the Web domains tab under Settings. From the Domain registration section, select Reactivate and then Pay and reclaim.
What can I do during the redemption period?
If we don’t receive the payment within the 40-day grace period, your domain enters a redemption period of 30 days.
Depending on the status of the domain, you may or may not be able to recover and renew your domain. For more details on Tucows/OpenSRS’ terms of service, check your Master Domain Registration Agreement.
If you want to redeem your domain during this period, chat with Help Assistant to get help. Some possible scenarios include:
- If your domain is still available for renewal, you can renew it by paying the standard domain renewal fee and an additional redemption fee. The redemption fee is imposed by Tucows/OpenSRS and not by Canva.
- If Tucows/OpenSRS has sent your domain to auction, you can no longer retrieve it.
What can I do after the redemption period ends?
You can no longer renew your domain when the redemption period ends. You may bid for the domain if it’s auctioned or acquire it if it’s released to the public. However, there’s no guarantee that the domain will be listed for auction or released to the public by Tucows/OpenSRS.
