Resize or change the format, layout, or dimensions of your design
Note: Each use of Magic Resize counts against your monthly AI usage limit. Learn more about AI usage limits in Canva.
- From the editor menu bar, select Resize.
- For common design sizes, pick from the suggestions. You can also Browse by category. You can choose multiple sizes.
- To use your own measurements, select Custom size. Here you can also lock or unlock the aspect ratio.
- Choose pages to resize from All pages. Otherwise, the size will be applied to all of them.
- Select Copy & resize or Resize this design. If you’re designing on a partner site via the Canva Button, you can only resize your current design.
If you selected Copy & resize, you’ll find the copy in the same folder as the original design. If you selected multiple sizes, we’ll save them in a new folder. You’ll see the folder name on the resize confirmation message.
Resize and customize bundles
Save time by resizing your design to multiple formats at once. Bundles group common document types, like a set of social media posts or vertical videos.
You can also customize these bundles by selecting or deselecting the formats you need. Here’s how:
- From the editor toolbar, select Resize.
- Under Suggested, you’ll find bundles like Vertical videos or Your last selection.
- Select on a bundle to see all the formats included.
- Customize the bundle by selecting or deselecting the checkboxes next to each format.
- Select Copy & resize to create new designs in the selected formats.
Resize a page
Resize a single page using the Edit Page panel without affecting the rest of your design.
- Select the background or the thumbnail of the page you want to edit.
- From the floating toolbar, select Edit. This opens the Edit Page panel.
- Select Resize.
- For common design sizes, pick from the suggestions. You can also Browse by category, or choose from multiple sizes.
- To use your own measurements, select Custom size. Here you can also lock or unlock the aspect ratio.
- Select your preferred design size to apply the changes.
Scale down dimensions that are outside of the limits
Scaling down won’t create a design in your target size, but you’ll get the same proportion.
- In the Custom size fields, enter your target dimensions. It’s okay if they turn red.
- Next to the Custom size fields, select Lock the aspect ratio.
- Refer to the dimension limits, and edit one of the Custom size fields to a value that’s within the size limits. Because you locked the aspect ratio, the other value will update automatically in proportion to your original target dimensions.
- Once done, download your design in PNG format from 0.5 up to 3.125 times its size.
Undo design resize
Undo design resize through Version history. This will only work if you resized the design directly and did not make a copy.
- From the top menu, select File.
- Select Version history.
- Select the Autosaved version of the design that you want to restore.
- To restore the version you’re viewing, select Restore.
- To create a copy of your selected version, select Make a copy.
Resize limits
- You can resize up to 50 designs at once
- You can select up to 5 new sizes per design
- Maximum of 250 total resized outputs per bulk action
- If you hit the limit, try running another batch after the first one finishes.
Minimum and maximum dimensions for resize
If the Custom size fields turn red, it means the values are less than or exceed the size limits:
- Minimum dimensions: 40 x 40 px (pixels)
- Maximum dimensions: 8000 x 3125 px
Can’t find Magic Resize
If you can’t find Magic Resize even if you’re on Canva Pro, Canva Teams, Canva Education, or Canva for Nonprofits, then you’re probably designing on a Canva Doc. Magic Resize isn’t supported in Canva Docs yet, but you can use Magic Switch to transform your Canva Doc into a presentation.
Can’t resize
- Your selection isn’t continuous - Resize only works with one block of cells. If you selected separate ranges (like A2:A5 and C2:C5), try selecting the full range instead — even if it includes blank cells.
- Some cells have more than one design link - Make sure each cell contains only one Canva design link. Remove extras before resizing.
- You don’t have access to one or more designs - You’ll only be able to resize designs you can edit. If access is missing, Canva will prompt you to request it.
- Your selection is empty or invalid - If your selection doesn’t include valid Canva links, you’ll be asked to update it before continuing.
What happens if there are duplicates?
If your selected column contains duplicate design links, you’ll see this message: “Cell range contains duplicate designs that will also be resized.” You can choose to remove duplicates before continuing, or resize them anyway.
Resized a presentation to video but the timeline doesn’t show
What can cause this
When you resize a presentation to video dimensions, Canva converts each slide into its own video page instead of a single long video. This can be mistaken for a bug because the full timeline isn’t visible.
What to do
Use “Edit as video” on selected pages
- Select the page(s) you want to turn into a video.
- Select Edit as video.
- This converts those pages into a video you can edit with timeline controls (e.g. trimming, timing, transitions).
Merge pages into a single video (if available)
- In the editor, hold Shift and select the page thumbnails you want to merge.
- On a selected page thumbnail, select More options, or right-click the thumbnail.
- Select Merge videos.
