Can't edit shared design

If a design is shared with you and you can’t edit it, these are possible reasons why it happens and things you can do to address it.

I can't edit a shared design

What can cause this

You only have view or comment-only access to the shared design.

What to do

Ask the owner of the design to re-share the design with you and make sure to give you edit access.

The design is shared with a different team or account

If a design is shared with a team, you can’t access it if you’re not part of the team or if you’re trying to open it from your personal account.

To check if you’re on the right team:

  1. Select your profile icon from the homepage or from the
    Menu.
  2. A ✔️appears next to the team you’re currently on.
  3. If you’re not logged into the correct team, switch teams by selecting the team name. You’ll be redirected to the team homepage.

The design shared has custom fonts that people not in the team can’t view

If you’re invited to access a design created by a Canva Teams account, you’ll be unable to see and edit custom fonts that may be exclusive to them.

To fix this, you can request the owner of the design any of the following:

  • Create and share with you a copy of the design where the custom font is replaced with a standard Canva font.
  • Add you to the team where the design was created.
  • Temporarily change the custom font to a standard Canva font on the original design.
