We offer two ways of developing with Canva. Use the Canva Apps SDK to build apps with capabilities available on-platform, within the Canva editor. Or, use the Canva Connect APIs to build integrations that bring Canva functionality off-platform and into another system or tool.
Our Connect APIs enable third-party developers to programmatically access and embed key Canva capabilities off-platform. They allow developers to securely exchange Canva data, with a user's permission, with third-party platforms, even when a user isn't actively designing in Canva.
Yes, anyone can use the Connect APIs free of charge to build integrations that will bring Canva functionality into another platform, system, or tool.

An API in Preview Mode is available to use, but still subject to change at any time. You will not be able to publicly release an integration that uses any preview mode APIs.
Certain types of Canva Connect APIs are restricted to Canva’s paid plans and users of integrations built with these APIs may need access to Canva Pro, Canva Business, or Canva Enterprise.
Apps on Canva are a distinct piece of functionality inside Canva that allow partners and developers to integrate their capabilities into the Canva Experience. At their most basic, they are a JavaScript file that runs inside an iframe. This file can render a UI within Canva and then access a number of APIs to interact with the Canva design.
The term SDK, or ‘Software Development Kit’, refers to the collection of APIs and other tools (like javascript libraries, documentation, sample apps, UI guides) that are provided to help developers build apps on Canva.
