Add tags to your images, videos, and designs for easier search
Use Smart Tags to organize your designs and media and find what you need faster. This feature uses artificial intelligence (AI) to suggest relevant tags. Whether you manage a portfolio or work with a team, Smart Tags help you work faster and stay organized.
Available to Canva Pro, Canva for Teams, Canva for Nonprofits, and Canva Education only.
Add tags to images and videos
Add tags to images from the homepage
- From the homepage, go to the Projects tab.
- Select the Type dropdown, then select Images.
- Hover over the image you want to manage, then select the View more icon.
- Select Details.
- To manually add tags, select Add tags, then type your preferred tags. Press Enter after each tag if you want to add more tags.
- Under Smart tags, you’ll see auto-generated tags with the icon. Select Show more to see more smart tags.
- To edit smart tags, select Edit tags.
- To remove a tag, select the next to it.
- Save your changes by selecting the Save button.
Add tags to videos from the homepage
- From the homepage, go to the Projects tab.
- Select the Type dropdown, then select Videos.
- Hover over the video you want to manage, then select the View more icon.
- Select Details.
- To manually add tags, select Add tags, then type your preferred tags. Press Enter after each tag if you want to add more tags.
- To remove a tag, select the next to it
- Save your changes by selecting the Save button.
Add tags on media files from the editor
- From the side panel of the editor, go to the Uploads tab. Select the Images or Videos tab.
- Hover over the image or video that you want to tag, then select the more icon that appears.
- Select Details.
- To manually add tags, select Add tags, then type your preferred tags. Press Enter after each tag if you’d like to add more tags.
- If you selected an image, you’ll see auto-generated tags with the icon under Smart tags. Select Show more to see more smart tags. Smart tags are not available on videos.
- To edit smart tags, select Edit tags to modify tags.
- To remove a tag, select the next to it.
- Save your changes by selecting the Save button.
Add tags to designs
Add tags on designs from the homepage
- From the homepage, go to the Projects tab.
- Select the Type dropdown, then select Designs. You can also scroll to the Designs section.
- Hover over the design that you want to tag, then select the More icon that appears.
- Select Details.
- Select Add tags, then input your preferred tags. Press Enter after each tag to add your tag.
- To remove a tag, select the next to it.
- Save your changes by selecting the Save button.
Add tags on designs from the editor
- From the side panel of the editor, go to the Projects tab, then go to the Designs tab.
- Hover over the design that you want to tag, then select the more icon that appears.
- Select Details.
- Select Add tags, then input your preferred tags. Press Enter after each tag to add your tag.
- To remove a tag, select the next to it.
- Select Save to save your tags.
To edit your tags, select the more icon, then select the Edit tags icon beside the tags.
If you’d like to remove a tag, select the icon next to the tag.
Anyone who has access to your design will be able to see the added tags.
You can add tags only if you have edit access to the design. If you only have view access, ask your team admin or owner for edit permission.
Search media files and designs using tags
To find your content using tags, enter the tag you used in the search bar and press Enter. Make sure to select Projects so the results will only show your uploaded media and designs.
