Understanding AI Pass
What is AI Pass add-on?
AI Pass is a monthly recurring add-on that works alongside your existing Canva Pro, Teams, Business, or Nonprofits plan. It gives you access to Canva’s largest AI allowance, so you can create faster, experiment more freely, and scale your creative output without interruption. AI Pass doesn’t unlock additional features, it gives you access to Canva’s largest AI allowance for all Standard, Premium, and Ultra AI tools. Who can access AI Pass?
AI Pass is available on web-managed Canva Pro, Canva Teams, Canva Business, and Canva for Nonprofits plans. AI Pass also works in Affinity for Canva Pro and Canva Business subscribers.
AI Pass isn't available if you're on:
- Canva Free, Education, or Enterprise
- A free trial
- A prepaid plan (1-day, 1-week, 1-month, or 1-year)
- A subscription managed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
For Canva Teams and Canva Business, only owners and admins can purchase AI Pass. If you're a team member who needs AI Pass, contact your owner or admin to request it.
What do I get with AI Pass?
AI Pass gives you significantly more AI than your current plan:
- Canva Pro, Teams, and Nonprofits subscribers: 40x more AI with AI Pass
- Canva Business subscribers: 20x more AI with AI Pass
This means more design, video, and image generations, more room to experiment and iterate, and more access to Ultra AI features using the latest AI models.

How much does AI Pass cost?
AI Pass is an optional add-on designed for those who use AI more intensively, so they can keep creating at full speed. AI Pass is USD $100 globally per person, per month.
Annual subscribers can choose to buy AI Pass with monthly or annual billing:
- Monthly AI Pass: USD $100 per person, per month. Available to monthly and annual subscribers.
- Annual AI Pass: Available only to annual subscribers. You’ll be charged a proportional amount for the rest of your current annual billing period.
How do I purchase AI Pass?
Purchase AI Pass for yourself
If you reach your AI usage limit while designing, you'll be prompted to upgrade your subscription or choose AI Pass to extend your AI allowance.
You can purchase AI Pass from your Billing page in Settings:
- From the homepage, select your profile icon.
- Select Settings, then Billing.
- In the AI usage section, select Get more.
- If you’re on an annual Canva plan, under Billing option, select Monthly or Yearly. Note: If you’re on a monthly Canva plan, AI Pass is billed monthly.
- Select Purchase AI Pass.
Purchase AI Pass for a team member
Note: Team members who need AI Pass should contact their owner or admin directly to request it.
If you're an owner or admin, you can purchase AI Pass for your team individually from the People page:
- From the homepage, select your profile icon.
- Select Settings, then People.
- Next to the team member you'd like to assign AI Pass to, select Get more AI.
- If you’re on an annual Canva plan, under Billing option, select Monthly or Yearly. Note: If you’re on a monthly Canva plan, AI Pass is billed monthly.
- Select Purchase AI Pass.
AI Pass takes effect immediately and appears as a line item on your Billing page, where you can manage or cancel it at any time.
Charges depend on the billing interval you select for AI Pass. If you’re billed annually, you may be charged a proportional amount for the remainder of your current plan period. If you’re billed monthly, you’ll be charged each month on your AI Pass renewal date.
How do I change my AI Pass billing interval?
Changing your AI Pass billing interval is only available if you’re on an annual Canva plan. If you’re on a monthly Canva plan, AI Pass is billed monthly and can’t be switched to annual.
- From the homepage, select your profile icon.
- Select Settings, then Billing.
- Under Plan, find AI Pass, then select (More).
- Select Switch to monthly or Switch to yearly, depending on your preference.
- Review the change, then select Switch to monthly or Switch to yearly again to confirm.
Any changes to your AI Pass billing will take effect at the end of your current billing period.
Can I use Canva’s AI design tools with AI Pass?
AI Pass doesn’t cover AI design tools such as Magic Write, Photo and Video Animations, and AI Voice, as these do not share your monthly AI allowance, and are included with your plan as usual. Fair use limits apply.
How do I track my AI allowance with AI Pass?
Quick tip
You can check the AI usage tracker anytime from the Billing page in Settings.
- From the homepage, select your profile icon.
- Select Settings.
- Select Billing.
- Under AI usage, you can see your AI usage and remaining balance.
Note: Your Canva monthly AI allowance only covers Canva's own AI tools. If a third-party app shows you've run out of credits, you'd need to check that app's own settings or contact its support team.
What happens when I reach my limit?
Just like using Standard, Premium, and Ultra AI features on your Pro, Teams, Business, and Enterprise plan, Canva will notify you as you approach your AI allowance limit so you can plan your work accordingly.

How do I get more AI access?
You can only purchase AI Pass once. If you’ve reached your monthly limit with AI Pass, below are some of your options for getting more AI access.
- Canva Pro/Teams: Upgrade your plan for more AI access. If you hit your limit, you can keep using premium AI features with short pauses.
- Canva Business: Purchase an AI top-up for more AI access. If you hit your limit, you can keep using premium AI features with short pauses. You can have an active AI top-up and AI Pass at the same time.
- Canva for Nonprofits: If you hit your limit, you can keep using premium AI features with short pauses.
Otherwise, your AI allowance resets on your subscription renewal date.
How do I remove AI Pass?
Remove your own AI Pass
- From the homepage, select your profile icon.
- Select Settings.
- Select Billing.
- Next to AI Pass, select Remove.
- Select Remove AI Pass to confirm.
- To undo cancellation, select Keep AI Pass.
Remove team member’s AI Pass
- From the homepage, select profile icon.
- Select Settings.
- From the side menu, select People.
- Go to the AI usage tab.
- Next to the team member you want to remove, select Remove AI Pass.
- To undo the cancellation, select Keep AI Pass.
Once cancelled, AI Pass will remain available until the end of the current billing cycle. We’ll notify you by email.
I can’t find the option to buy AI Pass
What can cause this
You can purchase AI Pass on a monthly or yearly auto-renewing Canva Pro, Canva Teams, Canva Business, or Canva for Nonprofits plan. Free trials and prepaid plans are not eligible. It also needs to be done through a web or mobile browser at canva.com, and by a team owner or admin, not a team member.
What to do
Work through the scenarios below to find what applies to you:
- You’re on a prepaid plan: Switch to a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription first.
- You’re on a free trial: Start your paid plan first.
- Your subscription is managed through the App Store or Google Play: Cancel through your app store, wait for your billing period to end, then re-subscribe at canva.com.
- You’re using the Canva mobile app: Go to canva.com on a browser instead. AI Pass can’t be purchased from the iOS or Android app.
- You’re a team member: Contact your team owner or admin to request AI Pass. Only owners and admins can purchase it.
- None of the above apply: Confirm your plan is eligible using the Who can access AI Pass? section above.
FAQs
If I switch my Canva plan from monthly to annual, what happens to my AI Pass?
If you switch your Canva plan from monthly to annual, your AI Pass stays active and will continue to be billed monthly unless you change its billing interval from your Billing settings.
Any changes to your AI Pass billing will take effect at the end of your current AI Pass billing period.
Can I get annual AI Pass on a monthly Canva plan?
No. If you’re on a monthly Canva plan, AI Pass is billed monthly. The option to choose or switch your AI Pass billing interval is only available if you’re on an annual Canva plan.
Why does my AI Pass renewal date change in some months (e.g. Jan 31 to Feb 28 to Mar 31)?
If your billing day is near the end of the month, it may move to the closest available date in shorter months.
