Connect Canva to Schoology

Schoology integration experience

Canva’s Schoology integration, using LTI 1.1 or LTI 1.3 (recommended), makes it easy to log in to Canva from Schoology. It also lets teachers quickly embed Canva content in their Schoology pages and assignments using a clickable design picker.

Enabling Canva as a school team admin

To make sure Canva works smoothly with your learning management system (LMS), we recommend that admins get in touch with our Education team before setup. You’ll get access to free Canva Education before connecting Canva to your LMS. Get started by contacting our team.

If you're part of a larger education group, like a school district or ministry of education, we also offer features like free Single Sign-On (SSO), secure rostering, flexible permissions, and more, all for free.

Once your institution is set up with Canva Education, the next step is to connect Canva to Schoology.

First, make sure LMS integration is enabled in your Canva account. If you haven’t done this yet, check out our guide on how to connect Canva to your LMS. Then, follow the steps for setting up LTI 1.1 or LTI 1.3 (recommended).

Check if you’re in the right team

Before setting up the LMS integration, make sure you’re in the right team first.

  • For single schools or district Canva teams, check if you’re in the school or district team.
  • For multi-school deployment, LMS should be configured by an Organisation Admin at the Org level.

Learn how to check and switch between multiple teams.

Enable Canva Education on Schoology (LTI 1.1)

With the deprecation of support for LTI 1.1 by IMS Global, we recommend enabling the LTI 1.3 integration. Note that the Canva LTI 1.3 integration will look identical to the 1.1 integration, but you’ll have access to deep linking, grade passback, and assignment integrations once they become available.

Set up Canva LMS Settings

  1. Go to the LMS Settings Page on Canva.
  2. Select Schoology as the chosen LMS and select Next step.
  3. Select LTI 1.1 and select Next step.
  4. Keep this page open, you'll need to copy your Consumer key and Shared secret in the next steps.

Enable the integration in Schoology (Admin)

  1. Log in to your Schoology account.
  2. From the App Center, look for and click on the Canva Education app.
  3. Select Add to Organization
  4. Look for the Canva Education app in your Organization Apps list, and select Configure.
  5. Copy and paste your Consumer key and Shared secret in the fields provided from your Canva Settings page.
  6. Back in the Organization Apps list, click Install/Remove and make the Canva app available to All Courses and All Users.
  7. Click Submit to finish.

Enabling Canva as a teacher

If you're a teacher without admin access, you can still enable Canva for your individual courses

  1. Sign in to your Schoology account.
  2. From the App Center, select the Canva Education app and then select Install.
  3. From your list of courses, select where you want to connect Canva to, and click Install. Canva Education will then appear in your course sidebar.
  4. Select Course Options, and select External Tool Providers.
  5. Copy and paste your Consumer key and Shared secret from your Canva LMS integrations page.
  6. Click Add App to finish.
