Add a cookie consent banner to your Canva website

A cookie consent banner lets visitors decide whether to allow Google Analytics cookies on your Canva website. This helps you respect visitor preferences and understand how people find and use your site.

If you enable Google Analytics, you are responsible for ensuring that your use of cookies follows the cookie and privacy laws that apply to your visitors. These laws may include ePrivacy/PECR (EU/UK), GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), and other regional laws. Canva’s cookie banner helps you collect consent, but it is not a complete compliance solution.

Cookies are small files stored on your visitor's device that track how they interact with your site. For this site, cookies are used for analytics purposes only to understand how visitors find and use your site.

Make sure you have:

• A Google Analytics account. If you don't have one, create a free account at analytics.google.com.
• Your Measurement ID from Google Analytics. It looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX.
• A custom domain to publish your Canva website to.
• A privacy policy or cookie policy published on your website that discloses your use of Google Analytics and explains how visitor data is collected, used, and stored.
• A clear understanding of the cookie and privacy laws that apply to your visitors, including ePrivacy/PECR (EU/UK), GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), and any other applicable regional laws.

The cookie banner appears to visitors when they first land on your published website. It does not appear in the editor or preview mode.

You can customise the banner’s position and colour:

• Banner position: Choose whether the banner appears at the top or bottom of your website.
• Banner colour: Choose a black or white banner.

The disclaimer text isn’t customisable.

When a visitor lands on your website, the cookie banner appears and gives them two options:

• Accept – allows Google Analytics cookies and tracking.
• Decline – blocks all Google Analytics cookies and tracking.

Visitors can withdraw consent at any time by using the floating cookie settings button on your site, if you have enabled it.

In many regions, such as the EU and UK, privacy laws require that withdrawing consent be as easy as giving consent. This means that a one-time banner may not be enough on its own. We recommend keeping the cookie settings button turned on. It is enabled by default to help you comply with applicable laws and give your visitors control over their preferences.

Visitor preferences are stored locally on the visitor’s device for 12 months. These preferences are not accessible to Canva or to you as the site owner. After 12 months, visitors will be asked to choose their preferences again.

If the laws that apply to you require demonstrable consent records, you will need a separate consent management solution.

If you use Google Analytics on your website, tracking begins only after a visitor accepts cookies. If a visitor declines, no Google Analytics data is collected for that session.

If you add a Google Analytics Measurement ID, Canva automatically turns on the cookie banner. See Set up Google Analytics for your Canva website for more information.

• Select Publish Website, then select Settings. Check that you’ve added a valid Google Analytics Measurement ID.
• Check that your website is published. The cookie banner only appears on your published website, not in the editor or preview mode.
