Create student accounts without email addresses
If your students do not have email addresses, you can use their names to create Canva Education accounts. Canva creates a unique username and temporary password for each student. You can then give each student their own login details.
Only teachers and admins can create and manage student accounts without email addresses.

You can create student accounts when you invite people to your team or create a class.
From the People page
- From the homepage, select your profile, then go to Settings.
- From the People tab, select Invite people.
- Select Student accounts without email.
- Enter the names of the students you want to add.
- Select Create student accounts.
- Select Download printable cards or Download spreadsheet (CSV)
When you create a class

- You can choose Download printable cards or Download spreadsheet (CSV)
Canva creates a unique username and temporary password for each student.
Create student accounts in bulk
If you're part of a multi-school organisation in Canva (e.g. district, ministry of education), you may be able to create student accounts without email addresses in bulk (where SUPA is enabled). You can upload an XLSX or CSV file to create up to 1,000 students per upload. Each student must have a unique Student ID (required). You can also assign students to new or existing classes in the same file (optional).
If you don’t see the bulk upload option, it may not be available for your district account yet.
Give students their login details
After you create the accounts, you can download your students’ login details in either of these formats:
- Printable cards that you can give to each student.
- A CSV with the students’ usernames and temporary passwords.
Keep students’ login details secure. Give each student only their own login details.
Temporary passwords are valid for one week. Students should sign in within one week and create a new password.
Because temporary passwords expire after 7 days, we recommend onboarding students a class at a time so they can sign in and update their passwords during the session.
How students log in
Give each student their username and temporary password.
Students can then follow these steps:
- Go to canva.com/abc.
- Enter their username and temporary password.
- Follow the prompts to create a new password.
After students set new passwords, they can use their accounts to access Canva and the Canva Education features available to your school team.
Reset a student’s password
If a student forgets their password or cannot access their account, a teacher or admin can reset the password.
- From the homepage, select your profile, then go to Settings.
- From People tab, select the student whose password needs to be reset.
- Select Reset password.
- Select Reset password to confirm.
- Select Download CSV or Download printable cards.
What student accounts can and cannot do
Student accounts created without an email address work differently from other Canva accounts.
- Student role only: The account can only have the student (member) role. It can’t be changed to a teacher or admin role.
- One team only: The account can only belong to the team where it was created.
- Removing a student account is permanent: If you remove a student account, their account will be permanently deleted, and they’ll lose access to their designs.
- Passwords managed by teachers and admins: Only teachers and admins can reset student passwords.
- Organisation permissions apply: Student accounts inherit the organisation and team-level permissions that apply to them.
- Canva Education access: Students get access to Canva and eligible Canva Education features.
Delete a student account
If you delete a student account without an email address, this will permanently delete their account. They’ll no longer have access to Canva.
- From the homepage, select your profile, then go to Settings.
- From the People tab, select the student accounts you want to delete.
- Select Remove users.

Do we need Student IDs for bulk upload?
Yes. A unique Student ID is required for each student.
Can we assign students to classes during bulk upload?
Yes. Bulk upload can assign students to new or existing classes in the same file (optional), depending on what columns are included in the template.
