Design websites in Canva using templates or from scratch

Create your website using any of our templates. You can also mix and match, or start from scratch.

Use website templates

You can browse Canva’s website templates directly from the homepage or the Templates tab by searching for “website".

  1. From the Canva homepage, select
    Templates from the side bar.
  2. In the
    search bar, type “website.”
  3. Browse the available templates. Select a template to preview it, then select Customise this template to open it in the editor.
  4. Change the text, photos, and colours. You can also add content from our libraries by selecting the different tabs on the editor side panel.
  5. To add animation to your page, text, or elements on your design, go to the toolbar above the editor and select Animate.

To make your website easy to navigate, you can also add a navigation menu.

Design a website from scratch

If you prefer to create your Canva website from scratch, you can start with a blank page.

  1. From the Canva homepage, select
    Templates from the side bar.
  2. Choose Website from the recommended categories.
  3. Select Create a blank Website.
  4. Use the editor side panel to add text, photos, videos, graphics, charts, or embeds to your design.
  5. To animation your page, text, or elements, go to the toolbar above the editor and select Animate.
  6. At the bottom of the editor, select
Add section to add a block within the same page.
  7. Use
Add page to add a new page. When published, each page will appear as a separate scrollable page on the same website.

Access website settings

  1. During publishing: Select Publish Website, then select Settings.
  2. For published websites: Edit your website design, select Publish, then Settings.
  3. From Web Domains: Go to
    Settings >
Web domains > View next to your website.

Configure site-wide settings

Go to the Site tab. These settings apply to your entire website.

  1. Website favicon: A favicon appears in browser tabs, bookmarks, and search results.
    1. From the Site tab, select the
      favicon.
    2. Select
      (plus) to upload an image.
    3. Choose a square image (we recommend 280 x 280 pixels).
    4. Select Done.

Note: We support JPG and PNG files up to 25MB.

  1. Website title: Enter a title next to the favicon. Your website title appears in browser tabs and search engine results.
  2. Privacy and visibility settings: Control who can see your website
    • Search engine visibility: Turn off to hide your site from Google and other search engines
    • Password protection: Require visitors to enter a password
    • Navigation menu: Show a menu on your website
    • Resize on mobile: Automatically adjust your design for mobile screens
    • Social media link preview: Set the image and text that appear when your site is shared

Customise individual pages

New Feature: You can now customise each page with individual settings:

For each page, configure:

  • Page title: What appears in browser tabs and search results
  • Custom URL path: Enter a URL path like "about-us" or "contact"
  • Page description: SEO summary for search engines (150-160 characters recommended)

Example Setup:

Homepage

  • URL path: [leave blank for homepage]
  • Title: "John's Design Studio - Creative Services & Portfolio"
  • Description: "Professional graphic design services including branding, web design, and marketing materials. View our portfolio and get a quote today."

About page

  • URL path: about
  • Title: "About John's Design Studio - Our Story & Team"
  • Description: "Learn about our design philosophy, meet our creative team, and discover why clients choose our studio for their branding needs."

Tip: Make each page unique. Don't use the same titles or descriptions for multiple pages.

Add pages and sections

Canva websites support multi-page layouts, letting you organise your content across multiple pages.

  • Add up to 45 pages to your website.
  • Add up to 20 sections to each page while designing.

Publishing limits

  • Canva Free: You can publish websites with up to 10 sections per page.
  • Canva Pro, Business, Enterprise, Nonprofits, and Education: You can publish websites with up to 20 sections per page.

If you're using Canva Free and your website contains more than 10 sections on a page, you'll be prompted to either:

  • Remove sections until the page has 10 or fewer sections, or
  • Upgrade your Canva plan to publish the website.

You can continue designing with up to 20 sections per page on Canva Free. However, publishing is limited to 10 sections per page unless you upgrade to a paid Canva plan.

Linking helps in navigating multi-page Canva websites.

  1. Highlight a text or select an element.
  2. From the toolbar that appears, click the
link icon. If it doesn’t appear, click
    more icon first.
  3. Go to Pages in this document and select the website pages you’d like to link to.
  4. Click Done to save.

Publish website design

To see how your design looks like, click or tap

Preview on the editor menu. From here, you may also view how the navigation menu will look like.

Once happy with your design, you can now publish it. See Publishing Canva websites for details.

Can I resize and publish an existing design as a responsive website?

Yes, you can! If you didn’t use a website template, you’ll be asked to resize your design so it can be published as a website.
