Enable accessibility or view-only captions on videos and audio
Let more people watch and interact with your content by enabling auto-generated captions for all your videos and audio.
Captions generated through Accessibility and the Show view-only captions button are different features from Editable Captions.
Captions on video are not yet supported on Canva websites.
We're rolling out navigation changes gradually, so some steps in this Help article may not accurately reflect what you see in the app. If you can't find Canva AI, your profile photo, or your Print cart on the homepage, go to More.
Turn on captions for all media across Canva
- On the homepage, select your account profile to open the menu.
- Choose Your account.
- Select Accessibility, then go to Captions.
- Select the Captions toggle to turn captions on or off. Canva automatically saves your preference.
Turn on caption in your design
- Open your design. Make sure there’s video or audio in it.
- From the editor, select File menu.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Select Show view-only captions on media.
Turn on captions for an individual video (in edit mode)
- Select your video in the timeline, then select More.
- Select Show view-only captions.
Turn on captions when presenting or via a view/watch link
- Hover on the bottom of the page.
- Select Show view-only captions. If you don't see the option, select More first.
How can I see captions?
Auto-generating captions can take some time. If the audio is unclear, the captions may be generated incorrectly.
- View subtitles from inside the Canva editor.
- Watch videos embedded on Canva designs.
- View Canva designs using the Share link to watch or View-only link options.
- View Canva designs in present view.
Can I download my designs with captions?
No. For now, captions can only be viewed on Canva. They can't be downloaded.
Can I edit my captions?
No. Captions are auto-generated, so cannot be edited currently.
In which languages are captions available?
These languages are currently supported: Afrikaans, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Belarusian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Kazakh, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Marathi, Maori, Nepali, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, and Welsh.
