Finding images using keywords
Search and find uploaded and shared images using keywords in Canva. You can also filter your search results to find the image you want to use easily.
You can either search from the homepage or from the editor.
This feature is available to Canva Pro, Canva for Teams, Canva Enterprise teams, Canva for Nonprofits, and Canva forEducation from the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
If you’re looking for images for your project or presentation, think of simple keywords, categories, or concepts related to it.
From the homepage
- Select Search anything.
- Enter a keyword, category, concept, or file name.
- Select Search for [keyword] to view the search results.
- Example: Enter nature, then select Search for nature to view content related to your keyword.
From the editor
- From the editor side panel, select Uploads or Projects tab.
- In the Search bar, enter a keyword, category, concept, or file name to find your content.
Step 2: Filter your search results
Here’s how to narrow your search results to find the image you want to use in your design.
From the homepage
After following the steps above, select See all in the relevant content section.
- Filter the search results by selecting Type, Category, Owner, or Date modified.
- To clear applied filters, select (close icon).
- Select Relevance to choose how to sort the search results.
From the editor
You can filter your search results from the Uploads or Projects tab.
- Under Uploads
- After you enter a keyword, you'll see uploaded content related to your search.
- Under Projects
- Under the search bar, select All projects, Your projects, or Shared with you.
- Filter your results by selecting All, Designs, Folders, or Images.
Search private media
Finding your content in Canva just got more powerful. You can quickly find your uploaded and shared images from Home or while designing.
Search private media from the homepage
From the homepage
- From the homepage, go to Projects and select All projects.
- Enter a keyword, category, concept, or file name in the search bar.
- Example: Enter nature to view content related to your keyword.
- Filter your search results by selecting Type, Category, Owner, or Date modified.
- You can also select Sort by to sort the search results by:
- Most relevant
- Newest edited
- Oldest edited
- Alphabetical (A–Z)
- Alphabetical (Z–A)
From the editor
- From the editor side panel, select Uploads or Projects tab.
- In the search bar, enter a keyword, category, concept, or file name to find your content. Example: Enter nature to view content related to your keyword.
- You can narrow your search further:
- Select Uploads to view uploaded content that matches your keyword.
- Select Projects, then choose All projects, Your projects, or Shared with you.
- Filter the results by selecting All, Designs, Folders, or Images.
