Resize text boxes and wrap text

Resize and wrap text in Canva to make it flow better within a layout, around graphic elements, and images. This improves the reading experience, especially when dealing with large bodies of text.

  • Making the text box narrower moves text to the next line. Use this to wrap text around images, elements, or when you have multiple text boxes placed next to each other.
  • Making the text box wider makes lines of text longer, resulting in fewer total lines. Use this to fill up white space in a layout. If your lines of text don't lengthen when you extend a text box, there is a manual line break that needs to be removed.

Want to control the shape of text? Learn more in our article on Curve text, add shadows and text backgrounds, and more or use the TypeCraft app (available in the

Apps tab of the Canva editor) to bend, warp, or twist text.

Adjust the size of your text box and wrap text in your design

  1. Add text or click and select the text box you want to edit. It shouldn’t be grouped with other elements.
  2. Click the white pill handles that appear on either edge of the text box.
  3. Drag left or right to make the text box wider or narrower. This won’t affect the text font size.
  4. To evenly resize the text box on both sides, hold Option (for Mac) or Alt (for Windows) while dragging any of the white pill handles.
  5. Move the text box placement as needed once you’ve resized it

Limitations

  • Text won't automatically flow across multiple text boxes.
  • When a graphic or image is placed on top of a text box, text won't automatically wrap around it.

Although text wrapping needs to be done manually, it gives you more control and flexibility when shaping your design layout.

  2. Click any of the white pill handles, and drag left or right to make the text box smaller or bigger.

With a smaller text box, your text will automatically wrap or overflow to the next line.
