Add, delete, and resolve comments
Comment on elements, pages, or whiteboards when working with your team and collaborators, or when reviewing student assignments.
Comments are different from notes. Notes are best used for presentations.
Add comments
- Select the element, text, or page you want to comment on.
- Select the Add comment icon from the floating toolbar that appears near your selection.
- Type your comment.
- Select the Send button to add your comment.
Formatting comments
To format the text in your comment:
- Select the text you’d like to format, or select Open Formatting.
- Choose between the different formatting options: Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Hyperlink, Quote, and List.
You can also use the following keyboard shortcuts:
- Bold: Ctrl+B (Windows) or ⌘B (Mac)
- Italic: Ctrl+I (Windows) or ⌘I (Mac)
- Strikethrough: Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows) or ⌘+Shift+S (Mac)
View and filter comments
Comments will appear as floating badges with the commenter’s initials or profile photo. For docs, comments will be highlighted.
- Select the comment icon at the top of your design.
- Select Current page to adjust filters or sorting.
- Choose how you want to filter comments by:
- All: to view all comments on your design
- For you: to view your tagged comments
- Canva AI: to view chats with Canva AI
- Unread: to view unread comments
- Suggestions (for Docs only): to view the suggestions added to your document. Learn more about suggestion mode in Getting started with Canva Docs
- Your comments: to view only your comments
- Resolved: to view resolved comments
- Choose how you want to sort comments by:
- Page
- Recent
Hide and unhide comments
Hiding comments is currently not available in Canva Docs.
Hide and unhide comments
- From the editor menu, select File.
- Select Settings.
- Select Show comments.
- To show the comments again, simply uncheck the Hide comments option.
Edit or delete comments
Note: Only design owners can delete comments from other users.
K-12 students can’t edit or delete their comments; by default, only school team admins and teachers can. To learn more about editing or deleting comments for Canva Education, see: Manage who can comment on designs for Canva Education
- From the comment thread, hover over the comment you want to edit.
- Click the More icon.
- To edit your comment, click on Edit. Make your changes, then click the Send button to save.
- To delete a comment, click on Delete.
Resolve and unresolve comments
Resolving comments
From the comment thread, hover over the comment that you want to resolve and select the Check button.
Unresolving comments
- Open the comment panel by selecting any comment, then click the All dropdown menu.
- Select Resolved to view resolved comments.
- Select the Restore icon next to the comment that you want to restore.
React to a comment
- Select View Comment.
- Select the Emoji icon on the comment you want to react to.
- Select an emoji to add a reaction or select the (Plus button) to view the full emoji menu.
You can also access the new emoji picker by pressing the Shift + (:) colon symbol on your keyboard while in comment mode.
- Select the page or element to view its comments.
- Select themore icon on the comment you want to share.
- Select Copy link.
- Send the link with the person you want to share it with.
Before sharing the comment link, make sure that the person you’re sharing the comment with has comment or edit access to the design. If they don’t have access, they will be prompted to request access to it.
