Transferring design ownership

If you're a Canva Teams, Canva Business, or Canva Enterprise admin, you can transfer someone's content before removing them from your team. This keeps your team's designs and assets accessible.

For Canva Education, this is only available if your school is part of a district team. Only district team admins can do this, and only when removing a member. If a member leaves on their own, their content can't be transferred.

Note: If you don’t have an active Canva Teams, Canva Business, or Canva Enterprise subscription, you’ll need to re-enable ownership transfer when you reactivate your plan.

What Gets Transferred?

  • Included: All folders, designs, templates, videos, audio, media uploads, and shared content owned by the removed member
  • Not Included: Comments, activity history, or content the member accessed but didn't own

Transferred content will appear in the

Projects page, organised as it was before the transfer. The transferred content will also keep its sharing permissions.

How to transfer designs and content ownership

Ownership transfer is on by default for teams.

If your team was created before June 1, 2026, make sure it's turned on in Settings before you can transfer content. Once enabled, you can transfer content right away. You can check or change this setting at any time

Step 1: Enable ownership transfer

  1. From
    Home, select your Profile icon.
  2. Select
    Settings.
  3. Scroll to find and select
    Controls tab.
  4. Next to the Ownership transfer section, toggle the slider button to enable

Step 2: Transfer design and content ownership

Before you continue, make sure you have the original owner's consent and follow privacy laws if personal data is involved.

  1. In
    Home, select your profile icon.
  2. Select
    Settings.
  3. From the side menu, select
    People.
  4. Next to the person you wish to remove, select the role dropdown, and select Remove from team.
  5. Select Transfer designs and remove from team.
  6. Confirm you have the consent of the person being removed, and select Continue.
  7. Select a new owner from the team list, then select Continue.
  8. Confirm and finalise the transfer. This action can't be undone.

The transfer may take several minutes. Larger transfers can take over 30 minutes.

Can’t find the Permissions tab to enable content transfer?

If you don't see

Permissions in Settings:

  • Confirm you're a Canva Teams, Canva Business, or Canva Enterprise owner or admin. If you’re using Canva Education, check if your school is part of a district team and that you have admin access.
  • Check if you're logged into the correct team or account.
  • Try switching teams or logging in with a different email or social account.

If you’re using Canva Education and your school isn’t part of a district team, you won’t see the ownership transfer setting.

Can’t find the transferred designs?

After ownership is transferred, designs appear in a dedicated folder in the new owner's

Projects page, making them easy to locate.

  • Look for a new folder in
Projects named From [person's name]. The folder is named after the person the designs were transferred from and contains all their transferred designs.
  • Use the search bar to find specific designs by title.
