Set up content copy for your district
When you enforce SSO (Single Sign-On), users with multiple email addresses might lose access to other school accounts and the designs stored in them. Enabling content copy lets students and teachers securely copy their work from locked accounts to their SSO-linked account.
This guide is for Canva for District administrators who manage their school or district's login and access settings. For teachers and students, check out: Copy content between accounts when SSO is enforced.

FAQs
How do users lose access to their accounts?
When SSO is enforced, users are directed to their SSO-linked email. If a user has multiple emails within your verified domains, they may lose access to older accounts. Common scenarios include:
- The district uses multiple identity providers (IdPs)
- Districts switch identity providers (IdPs)
- Users have multiple usernames or aliases
- Domain changes
What accounts can users copy content from?
Only from accounts belonging to domains that your district has claimed and verified.
Example: You've claimed @school1.edu and @district-a.edu. A user who originally logged in with @school1.edu and after SSO, now uses @district-a.edu, can copy content from @school1.edu because it is a verified domain.
Can users copy content from personal Canva accounts?
No. Only verified school domains are supported.
Can admins copy content for their members?
No, teachers and students must log in and complete the verification themselves.
Can we track what’s copied?
Yes, there will be audit logs for each content copy triggered by a user.
What content can be copied?
- Designs
- Folders
- Brand templates (copied as designs)
- Websites (as designs)
- Videos, and
- Uploaded media
Is a security check required to move content between accounts?
Yes. To confirm the account ownership, Canva will send a verification email to the email address the teacher/student nominated when asked which account they wish to copy from. The teacher/student will need to provide the one-time code in that email before any designs can be copied over.
Make sure you allowlist no-reply@canva.com to ensure verification emails are delivered successfully.
