Audio protected by third-party copyright
We know it’s frustrating when you can’t download your design. This may happen if your design contains copyrighted audio.
Canva uses audio fingerprinting to detect music that matches copyrighted content. It works like a digital tool that recognizes songs, similar to apps that identify music playing nearby. When a match is found, Canva may block the download to protect copyright holders.
Why audio gets blocked
Canva may block your download if:
- The audio matches content registered by a copyright holder.
- The audio was uploaded without the right permissions.
- The audio comes from a provider whose license doesn’t allow use in videos.
Tip: Audio from Canva’s library marked Commercial use allowed is designed for use in published content.
Unblock your audio
If you own the audio or have a valid license, contact us through Help Assistant to request a review. Please provide any of the following documents that shows you have the right to use the audio:
- Original project/session files from your audio software
- Registration documents from a copyright office
- Publishing agreements showing you as the creator
- License agreement or purchase receipt
- Written permission from the copyright holder
- Documentation that explicitly allows use in videos
Our Support team will review your request and remove the block if your documentation is valid.
Important
Audio from some providers may not include the rights needed to use it in videos. In these cases, the license may not allow you to unblock your content.
- May not be eligible for unblocking (often performance/mechanical rights): KOMCA, JASRAC, Nextone, IPRS
- May be eligible for unblocking (licenses may cover audiovisual/videogram rights): RIAS/RIAJ, ISUM
If you’re unsure what your license covers, contact the original provider to confirm you’re allowed to use the music in videos.
I can’t provide proof of ownership or licensing
If you can’t provide proof of ownership or a license that includes video (synchronization) rights, you may need to replace the audio. In the editor, go to Audio tab and choose a track marked Commercial use allowed.
