Choose the right paper for your print

When ordering prints with Canva, choosing the right paper type makes all the difference. This guide explains our paper quality, finishes, and whether they are writable, so you know exactly what to expect before placing your order.

Quick tip! Choose:

  • Gloss for bold colors, not for writing.
  • Matte/Uncoated if you are considering writing on the print.
  • Premium/Deluxe for sturdiness.
  • Hemp for a natural, eco-friendly texture.

Paper type and quality

Some of our common paper types are:

  • Standard – Durable, everyday, budget-friendly.
  • Premium – Thicker and more durable than Standard.
  • Deluxe – Extra thick, sturdy, and professional.
  • Hemp – Lightly textured, natural paper made from renewable hemp fibers.

Paper thickness is measured in GSM (grams per square meter). The higher the number, the thicker and sturdier the paper. We use eco-friendly recycled paper that doesn’t compromise on quality.

Paper finishes

Paper finish refers to the texture and look of the surface. Availability depends on the product you select.

  • Matte – Subtle colors, writable, soft look.
  • Gloss – Shiny, vibrant, not suitable for writing.
  • Uncoated – Smooth, natural look, writable.
  • Soft-Touch – Velvet-like, premium feel, writable.

Paper stock samples

We don’t currently offer paper stock samples. To test before a large order, we suggest to try the lowest available quantity first.
