Choose the right download file type for your Canva design

Download your designs in the file format that best serves their intended use:

Image

  • JPG: Provides a small file size, best for photographs. Adjust quality and scale by dragging each slider. Set a file size limit for export by entering a value in KB.
  • PNG: Supports transparency, best for graphics. Tick Compress file size, and drag the slider to 0.5x, 1x, 2x, or 3x for the compression ratio. Set a file size limit for export by entering a value in KB.
  • SVG: Supports transparency; keeps image quality at any size, and is great for web graphics.

Limit file size export

  1. Select PNG or JPG as the file type. This isn’t available for other file types at the moment.
  2. Below the quality or size slider, tick the box for Limit file size to.
  3. Enter the file size limit you prefer in KB.
  4. Select a page. Note that you may only set a file export limit when downloading a single page.

When you set a file size limit, some options, such as the quality slider, may lock or become unavailable.

If the design has complex content (i.e., many elements or layers), the exported file might be larger than specified to retain image quality. However, the file will be exported as small as possible.

Quality, file size export limit, scale, compression, CMYK color profile options, and transparent PNGs and SVGs are available to accounts with the Canva Pro, Canva for Teams, Canva Education, and Canva for Nonprofits plans.

Document

  • If you download a design containing cropped images to a PDF file, the PDF format will include the original image. This means someone could use a third-party tool (for example, a PDF editor) to get the full, uncropped image from your PDF export. Please delete any content you don’t wish to be viewed or recreate the image within your design before downloading and sharing.
  • The password protection feature is only available for PDF Standard file type. This relies on using a PDF viewer that supports password-protected files.
  • PDF Standard: For illustrations, text, and graphics with a resolution of 96 dpi
  • PDF Print: For printing with a resolution of 300 dpi, with bleed, crop marks, and color profile (RGB or CMYK) selection option
  • Compress PDF: For reduced file size, image quality may be lowered. This feature is available only to Canva Pro, Teams, Education, and Nonprofit.
  • PPTX (Microsoft PowerPoint): For presentations only. Downloading as PPTX is currently not supported for other design types
  • DOCX (Microsoft Word): For Canva Docs only. Downloading as DOCX is currently not supported for other design types.

Designs downloaded as PPTX or DOCX files may look different when opened in Microsoft Powerpoint or Microsoft Word. You may need to make edits, or download and install the fonts you used in Canva to your device.

Animations and embedded videos are not yet supported in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. If your design includes animated elements and/or videos, they may not play as expected when downloaded as PPTX or DOCX.

Spreadsheet

  • CSV (Comma-Separated Values): Ideal for exporting raw data from Canva Sheets for use in spreadsheet software or data analysis tools.

These formats let you to efficiently transfer data from Canva Sheets into other applications. Learn more about Canva Sheets.

Video
