Drawing lines, shapes, diagrams, and more in Canva
Empower your creativity as you sketch them onto your design using Draw. Draw directly on your designs for a personalised touch. You can also leave notes for your team or sketch diagrams and flowcharts.
Note: Draw is available in all design types except for Docs. Draw will replace the beta Draw app.
Draw lines, shapes, diagrams, and more in Canva
- From the editor side panel, select Tools to see the drawing options.
- Select from Draw, Shapes, Lines, Sticky notes, Text, or Tables.
- Select Draw and choose from Pen, Marker, Highlighter, Eraser, or Colour. To get out of drawing mode, select the Select icon.
- Select Settings, then adjust the thickness or transparency.
- Start drawing on your whiteboard.
- To draw a straight line, hold the Shift key.
- To erase your drawing, select the Eraser option, then brush over the areas you want to erase.
- To get out of drawing mode, select the Select icon.
- To hide the Draw tab, select Close icon.
To change the Colour, select the Colour tile. Choose from your document colours, or pick a new one using the rainbow tile.
To customise the weight, select Settings. Choose from the presets or input your desired weight. You can also adjust the transparency and weight by dragging the sliders.
Draw or erase
- To start drawing, make sure you’ve selected a brush or pen option. Select and drag on your design.
- To erase your drawing, select the Eraser option. Select and drag over the areas you want to erase.
- To get out of Eraser mode, select the Cursor to apply the changes.
After drawing, you can select them as you normally do with Canva elements.
If you are collaborating on a shared design, you can see whether other users are using the draw tool by looking at their cursors.
My drawings look shaky
That’s totally fine! But if you’d like them to have a more polished look, Canva’s shape assist can help transform your drawings into more refined illustrations.
To use it, draw a shape and pause at the end for 1 second.
We’re working on adding more, but for now, this works for the following:
- Rectangles
- Arrows
- Triangles
- Circles
- Stars
- Lines
- Hearts
- Diamonds
Tip! You can draw a straight line by holding the Shift key.
I've reached the stroke limit and can't save my design.
If your design's drawings aren't saving, it's because you've exceeded our stroke limit of 1 MB per design. Here are some things you can do in order to save your design:
- Take out some strokes from your design.
- You can duplicate or make copies of your designs to continue where you left off with the second design.
