Setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra layer of security to your account. Once it's on, you'll enter a 6-digit code from your authenticator app each time you log in.

MFA isn’t available for SSO-managed Accounts.

You'll need a password on your account. If you don't have one, go to Settings > Login > Password to set one up.

Verify your account first — check your email for a confirmation message from Canva.

Set up Authenticator App

  1. From the homepage, go to your account profile, then select
    Your account.
  2. Select
    Account and security.
  3. In the Security section, go to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), then next to Authenticator app, select Enable.
  4. Enter your password, then select Confirm password.
  5. Using your preferred authenticator app, scan the QR code. You can also select Show secret key and copy the code to your authenticator app when adding an account.
  6. Enter the six-digit code generated by your authenticator app. Each code is valid for 30 seconds, so use the most recent one.
  7. Select Enable authenticator app.
  8. In the next window, select Copy codes and store them somewhere safe. You can use these codes if you lose access to the MFA factor you enabled.
  9. Select Finish setup to complete your MFA setup.

Generate backup codes

In case you lose access to your multi-factor authentication options, you can use backup codes to log in to your account instead. Each code can only be used once. You can generate new backup codes if you’ve used them all or lost them.

  1. On the homepage, select your account profile to open the menu.
  2. Select
    Your account, and go to
    Account and security.
  3. In the Security section, under Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), look for Backup codes.
  4. If you've used up all your backup codes or haven't set them up before, select Generate. If you've lost your old backup codes or want to create new ones, select Regenerate.
  5. Once generated, new backup codes will appear. Select Copy codes and store them somewhere safe.
  6. Select Finish set up to finish.

Turn off Multi Factor Authentication

  1. On the homepage, select your account profile to open the menu.
  2. Select
    Your account, and go to
    Account and security.
  3. In the Security section, under Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), then next to Authenticator app or SMS Verification, select Disable.
