Analyse and summarise Canva Sheets data with Magic Insights
With Magic Insights, you can quickly turn your Canva Sheets data into charts, summaries, and formulas without manual calculations or formatting.

Step 1: Generate Magic Insights
- Enter your data in Canva Sheets.
- If you have multiple pages, choose one for insights.
- Select the cells you want insights from. Selected cells will be boxed in purple.
- In the floating toolbar, select Actions.
- Select Magic Insights.
- Type your question or leave it blank for top-level insights.
- Select Generate insights. Your insights will appear in the side panel as:
- Data summary - an interpretation of your sheet’s data. Note: Data summaries appear only when the prompt is left blank.
- Formulas - formulas that can be derived from your sheet’s data.
- Charts - charts that you can use to present your sheet’s data.
Step 2: Add insights to your design
After generating insights, here’s how you can add them to your design:
Add data summary insights
Data summary appears only when the prompt is left blank.
- In the Magic Insights panel, hover and select the Copy icon on the data summary.
- To use it In your design, paste using Command-V (for MacOS) or Ctrl + V (for Windows).
Use formulas on your insights
- In the Magic Insights panel, hover and select the More icon on the function that you prefer.
- Select from the options below:
- Copy formula to paste into your sheet.
- Copy text to use the summary elsewhere.
- In your design, paste using Command-V (for MacOS) or Ctrl + V (for Windows).
Add chart insights
- In the Magic Insights panel, hover over the chart.
- Select the More icon.
- Select from the options below:
- Add chart to a new presentation page.
- Copy chart title to use elsewhere.
- To add the chart to the same page, select it and adjust placement as needed.
FAQs
Can I edit AI-generated charts and formulas?
Yes. After you add them, you can change them as you need.
Why is my data not generating any insights?
If you're not seeing any insights, try the steps below:
- Select the correct data range—it must include more than one cell.
- Check that your data is in a clear table with column headers that describe each column
- Try refreshing the sheet or selecting a different data range.
Why isn't my Magic Insights chart updating when I change the original data?
Changes to your sheet won’t automatically update the chart. To reflect new data, you’ll need to run it again through Magic Insights.
Charts use a copy of your data that may group, filter, or rearrange information to make it easier to see.
