Fix missing elements in your downloaded design
If parts of your design are missing after download—like images not rendering, text or objects disappearing, or animations not showing—you’re in the right place.
This can happen for several reasons, depending on your device, file format, team settings, or how the design loads.
Missing elements can include:
- Images that don’t appear in the downloaded file
- Text boxes, shapes, or icons that disappear
- Only part of the design downloading
- Animations or video effects that don’t play
- Audio that isn’t included
- Elements that look different or appear flattened

Common causes and fixes for missing elements in your downloaded design
Cause | Fix |
Device or storage limitations - Your device may not have enough memory to render or export large files. - Low disk space can prevent files from exporting fully. | Free up some device memory before downloading again. |
Browser or app issues Outdated browser versions or the Canva app may not export properly. Browser extensions, such as ad blockers, can also interfere with downloads. | Switch browsers or update the app - Try a different browser and make sure it’s up to date. Some browsers handle design exports differently. - Check Canva’s minimum technical requirements to confirm your browser is supported. - Clear your browser’s history, cookies, and cache. This can fix download issues, but may log you out of other sites. - Try an Incognito or Private window to disable browser extensions that may interfere with Canva. Update the Canva mobile app to its latest version Updates often fix bugs that cause issues during download. - Make sure you’re using the latest version of the app. - Log out of the app, then sign back in. - Restart your device and check for available system updates. |
Internet connection issues can cause videos or images to drop or load slowly before export. | Ensure you have a stable internet connection while editing and downloading. |
Animation or sync delays - Some animations, audio, or videos may still be syncing or rendering. - Elements that haven’t fully loaded may be skipped during export. | Wait for all elements to load - Before downloading, confirm that all images, videos, and animations have loaded and are visible in the editor. - Reload the page or app to make sure all elements are loaded. |
There are broken or corrupted elements | Replace broken or corrupted elements Re-upload missing files, or delete and recreate elements that aren’t exporting correctly. |
Unsupported or flattened features Some download formats don’t support all Canva features: - PDF files don’t support animations or videos. - JPG and PDF Standard formats flatten effects. - PNG supports transparency, but not motion. | Use the correct download format - Choose MP4 for animations or video playback. - Use PNG for transparent backgrounds. - Avoid PDF formats for designs with motion or interactivity. |
Team or enterprise restrictions - Brand controls may hide or restrict elements. - Missing permissions or broken links to shared folders can prevent assets from appearing in the final file. | Check brand controls and file permissions - If you’re part of a team or enterprise, brand settings may block certain fonts, colours, or assets. - Make sure shared links and folders are accessible to everyone working on the design. |
Your design has reached the maximum file size limit | Check file size and format limits since large designs may not export fully. Try splitting files or changing formats. |
Uploaded media used in the design might have been deleted | Check for uploaded media that has been deleted If a photo, video, or audio file was deleted from your Uploads or team folder, it will no longer appear in your downloads. To check: 1. Go to Uploads, look for missing items, or re-upload the original file. 2. If the file was recently deleted, try restoring it from Trash. Learn how to recover deleted media. |
Emojis used were added from your device keyboard | If emojis are missing, try adding them from the Apps tab. Learn more about what you can do if emojis don’t look the same after downloading. |
