When to use Resize or Crop

Resize changes an element’s dimensions, making it bigger or smaller. This affects the entire element, including all visible content. Use Resize to scale the full element.

Crop hides part of an element so you can focus on a specific area. The hidden parts aren’t deleted; you can adjust the crop anytime. Use Crop to highlight what matters or remove distractions.

  1. Select the element, text box, image, or video you want to resize.
  2. To select multiple elements, click and drag the selection frame horizontally or vertically.
  3. Select any of the resize handles on the corners of the selected element/s, and drag it in or out to resize.

In Canva Docs, you can resize elements, photos, videos, tables, charts, and embeds up to the full width of the page.

In Canva Docs, you can resize elements such as photos, videos, tables, charts, and embeds to span the full width of the page.

  1. Click the element, photo, video, table, chart, or embed.
  2. Right-click the selected item.
  3. Choose
    Expand to full width.

Advanced resize options

Resize photos, shapes, and videos into exact measurements, with or without keeping the aspect ratio. Note that Canva graphics have a fixed aspect ratio and you won’t be able to stretch them.

  1. Click Position on the toolbar above the editor.
  2. Under Advanced, enter the pixel values in the Width and Height fields.
  3. Select
    Ratio to keep its proportion.
  4. To resize or stretch a photo without maintaining its aspect ratio, double-click it to enter crop mode, then hold Shift while dragging the resize handle.

Crop elements in freeform or select a predefined aspect ratio. Note that you can't crop GIFs and embeds.

  1. Select the element, image, or video that you want to crop.
  2. On the editor toolbar, select
    Crop. You can also double-click an element to load the crop settings.
  3. For elements that aren’t in frames, select a crop aspect ratio.
  4. Select and drag any crop handle to adjust what part of the element you want to be visible. You can also resize the element within the crop space.
  5. Select Done on the side panel, or click outside of the element to finish.

To crop media inside of frames and grids, double-click or double-tap them.
