Start your design with the right page orientation
Page orientation refers to the layout of your design, whether it's taller (portrait) or wider (landscape), and affects how your content appears on screen or in print.
You can start with a template that uses a set orientation, change it by resizing your design, or create a custom orientation from scratch.
For now, changing the design page orientation isn’t available. Learn how to use Resize & Magic Switch to resize your page.

Page orientation types
Portrait
The page is taller than it is wide. Commonly used for documents, social media stories, and reels.
Landscape
The page is wider than it is tall. Commonly used for presentations, YouTube videos, and banners.
Set page orientation
- From the Canva homepage, select theCustom size icon.
- To select your design dimensions unit, select the .
- For portrait designs, enter a higher value for height than for width.
- For landscape designs, enter a higher value for width than for height.
- To start designing, select Create new design. This will open the editor.
Once your design is set up with the right orientation, you can start customizing your content or explore templates built for that layout.
