Create designs using templates
Use Canva templates to quickly create designs from the homepage or the editor.
You can also start a new design from the Quick Create section on your homepage or the Create tab to browse templates by design type. Visit our Design from scratch page to learn how.

From the homepage
To search for templates from the Canva homepage:
- On the homepage search bar, type your keywords and press Enter. You can also select Templates above the search bar so that only templates will appear in your search results.
- On the homepage, select Templates on the side navigation. From there, browse categories or use the search bar to find a template.
Select a template to preview it, then select Customise this template to open it in the editor.
From the editor
Browse through the list of available templates by selecting Templates in the editor side panel.

Generate templates with Canva AI
- From the editor, go to the Templates tab.
- Enter a prompt in the search bar describing the template you want to create, then press Enter. Learn more about AI prompting here.
- Under Search, check available templates from the Canva library.
- To generate new templates with Canva AI, select Generate.
- (Optional) Select the + (plus) icon to guide the output:
- Upload – Attach files from your device.
- Add from Canva – Use files from Your designs or Uploads.
- Import – Add files from Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
- Styles– (For Presentations and Videos) Select a style option if available.
- Review generated templates and select one to apply it to your design.
- Select Regenerate to explore more template variations.

Prepare your design for printing
If you plan to print your design, use CMYK colours to help make sure that the colours are printer-friendly. This is because colours don’t look the same on screens and on paper.
We also recommend using CMYK for Canva Print orders.
