Use Canva on D2L (for teachers)

With your school’s Canva Education account, seamlessly create, share designs and even setup assignments to your class within your D2L account.

Create a Canva Education account

You need a Canva Education account to create and share designs to your class. You can do this directly from your D2L account.

  1. Log into your D2L account.
  2. Open a Course.
  3. Click the Canva Education tab from the Course page to create an account.

If you can’t find the Canva Education option, please ask your district or school leader to contact us here so we can set up your entire school district on Canva. After our team approves of the application, they then have to connect Canva to D2L before it appears on your Canvas account.

Create a design

Start creating designs from your D2L account.

  1. Log into your D2L account.
  2. Open a Course and click on the Canva Education tab to launch it.
  3. Select a design document (e.g. Presentation, Worksheet, Poster, etc.).
  4. From the Canva editor, create a design using templates or from scratch.
  5. Edit text, colours, images, videos, and more. Changes to your designs save automatically.

You can also create a design directly from a D2L assignment. See the section below to learn more.

Create Canva assignments for students

Let students create and design their assignments using Canva.

  1. Log into your D2L account.
  2. Select the course where you want to create an assignment for.
  3. Click on the Assignments tab and then the New Assignment button.
  4. Add assignment details (e.g. title, instructions, due date, etc.).
  5. Click on Insert Stuff (the icon with shapes) and select Canva Education.
  6. Select the design you’ve already created or create a new one. If you created a new design, make sure to press Publish to D2L once done.
  7. Click on Save and Close to finish setting up the assignment. Students will see the assignment in their D2L account.

If you see an error message saying “We blocked this for you,” click on Allow. You can also check your browser settings. From there, make sure “Block third-party cookies” is not enabled. Select the Allow all cookies option.

After students submit their assignments, you can check and grade them on Canvas.

  1. From your D2L account, go to Assignments.
  2. Select the assignment you want to check and open the Submissions tab.
  3. Click on an assignment and see the Canva design. You can only view the design.
