Publish websites to a free domain

Still deciding about buying a custom domain? Publish your website to a free Canva domain until you’re ready to purchase.

Canva websites are available to Canva Free, Canva Pro, Canva Teams, and Canva Education users.

Publish on a free Canva domain

Free Canva domains previously used by another brand can’t be reused, even if inactive, to prevent phishing and protect your brand’s integrity. Ensure you select a unique domain name that hasn't been used before.

These steps apply to designs created from a Website template only. If you're using a mobile website or Link in Bio template, your site publishes to a canva.link address only. The domain selection option will not appear. To publish to a free .canva.site domain, resize your design to a Website template, or create a new design using the Website template.

  1. In the editor, select Publish website.
  2. In the Website panel, review your Site address (URL). Select the Site address (URL) drop-down to choose the domain you want to use for your website. If needed, update the Subpath to customise your website address.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. In the Settings panel, choose the options you want to apply:
    • Turn on Resize on mobile to optimise your site for mobile devices.
    • Turn Navigation menu on or off.
    • Optional: Review other settings such as Title and favicon, Password protection, Search engine visibility, and Social media link preview. Learn more about these in Changing website slug, favicon, and other settings.
  5. Select Continue to publish.
  6. Select Publish.

Note: After selecting Continue to publish, you can return to the Website panel to change your Site address (URL) or Subpath before selecting Publish.

If you have already selected a subdomain, you will now have the option to edit the Website URL with your subpath or slug.

If you need to change the name of your free Canva domain, see Changing the name of free Canva domains for the detailed steps.

Canva Free users can have up to five live websites on the free domain. Purchase domains or upgrade your membership to publish more.

Canva Education users can have unlimited websites on the free domain and connect up to one existing domain at a time. Teachers can also purchase a domain to create more or disconnect the previous domain and reconnect to another website.

You can still edit your website after it’s live. Republish it to reflect the changes.

For Canva Education users, teachers need to approve a website first before a student can publish it. Learn more about Approving designs (for teachers) and Getting design approval (for students).

If you’re a Canva Free user, a 'Designed with Canva' footer will appear at the bottom of your published website. This footer includes Canva's Privacy Policy and can't be removed on a Free plan. To publish without the footer, upgrade to Canva Pro.

FAQ

Why can't I connect a custom domain to my mobile website?

Mobile Website (Link in Bio) templates only support publishing to canva.link. Connecting purchased or existing custom domains isn't supported for this template type. If you'd like to publish using a custom domain, create a Website design or resize your design to a Website template before publishing.
