Add and replace videos on designs

There are several ways you can add videos to enrich your Canva designs. This guide covers how to add, replace, and manage videros across both desktop and mobile devices.

Tip: Looking for video inspiration? Go to Video Marketplace to explore stock footage, hooks, and AI-powered video tools.

Add or generate videos

Designs can have up to 350 total videos. You can access our diverse library of stock videos, both free and premium, based on your plan. If you have a free account, premium videos will have a watermark that you can remove by purchasing a One Time Use license or by upgrading your plan. Check our Media License Agreement for video license info.

Add videos from our library

  1. From the editor side panel, select
    Elements.
  2. Under Browse categories, select Videos.
  3. In the Search bar, describe what you're looking for. Press Enter.
    • Under Search, you'll see existing video elements from Canva library.
    • To create new content based on your prompt, select Generate.
  4. From the results, select a video to add it to your design.

Upload your own videos

Upload your own videos, including those you've filmed, branded content, or other stock footage.

You can upload videos in the following formats: AVI, MOV, GIF, M4V, WEBM, MKV, MP4, and MPEG. We recommend using MP4 for the most reliable results.

The maximum file size is 1GB.

To learn more about supported formats, see Upload formats and requirements.

Canva supports 4K exports, but uploaded 4K videos are downscaled to 1080p. Even if you export in 4K, the stored version remains 1080p, which may affect the final output.

Upload your own videos

  1. From the editor side panel, select the
    Uploads tab.
  2. Select Upload files, and choose the videos that you want to upload. You can also drag the files to the Uploads tab to upload them.
  3. Select an uploaded video to add it to your design.

If you experience errors when uploading, the file may be in an unsupported format, such as:

  • Apple Intermediate
  • ProRes 4444 (ProRes 422 Supported)
  • HDV 720p60
  • Go2Meeting3 (G2M3)
  • Go2Meeting4 (G2M4)
  • Videos with transparent backgrounds: upload them as GIFs, if they’re short, as a workaround.

Replace a video in a design

You can replace videos in any Canva template or design. It’s a great way to incorporate fresh content or update outdated videos.

Replace a video in a design

  1. From the editor side panel, select the
    Uploads or
Elements tab to look for videos. If the
    Videos tab isn’t there, click
    Apps first.
  2. Select and drag a video on the template that you want to replace.

If the

error icon shows up on your video, follow the steps found in My video won’t playback.
