Extract audio from a video
Extracting audio from videos you’ve uploaded to Canva lets you use or edit the audio separately from visuals or videos, keep narration while changing the visuals, and enhance audio using Canva’s audio tools. This is great for voiceovers, podcasts, B-roll transitions, and updating visuals while keeping your original narration.
Extract audio from a video in the editor
- Go to your design, then select the video.
- Then, do one of the following:
- Right-click the video, then select Extract Audio.
- Go to Audio Tools, then select Extract.
- The audio will appear in the timeline.
- Select the audio to:
- Trim it using the handles
- Reorder it in the timeline
- Edit, cut, or combine segments
You can now use audio fade-in or fade-out directly on a video without extracting the audio. Learn how to apply audio fade to videos.
Extract Audio limitations
You can only extract audio when:
- You uploaded the video (not from Canva’s library)
- The video has finished processing
- The video includes audio
- The video is selected directly in the editor
- The video isn’t embedded from another site (like YouTube or Google Docs)
- The video is selected on the editor to enable the option
Can I download the extracted audio as a separate file?
No, you can’t download the extracted audio as a separate file. The audio stays in your Canva design and timeline.
Why do I see the option in some projects but not others?
You can see the extract audio option only if the video is uploaded, not from Canva’s library, and not from embedded videos from YouTube or Google Docs. Also, check if it has uploaded properly and finished processing.
