Add audio tracks and sound effects

Pick audio tracks or sound effects from the Audio tab, and add them to your designs. You can also upload and use your own files.

You can add and layer up to 50 audio tracks to your design. If your design has more than 50 tracks, please split your design by duplicating it and deleting other pages.

Add audio using Canva’s Audio library

  1. From the editor side panel, click the
Audio tab. If it’s not there, click
Apps first to see it. Alternatively, select
    Elements. Under categories, choose Audio.
  2. Scroll through the categories or use the
search bar. Click See all next to each to browse all the options.
  3. Click on a track to add it to your design. If you’re using a video template, it’ll go where your play head (timestamp) is on the timeline at the bottom of the editor.

To see more from an audio contributor, hover over a track on the editor side panel. Click the

More tab icon that appears, and click View more by contributor below the title.

Add Canva AI-generated audio

You can also create your own audio using Canva AI. To learn more, see Generate AI music, sound effects, and voiceovers in Canva.

Mute and delete audio

  1. On the timeline at the bottom, select the audio you want to mute or remove. It's a coloured bar below the page thumbnails.
  2. To mute, select
Volume from the menu bar above and then select
    Mute.
  3. To delete, right-click on the audio and select
    Delete track.
    • Note: You can also click "Delete" on your keyboard after slecting the audio to delete audio from the timeline.

On using your audio or music

See Uploading images, videos, and audio from your device to learn how.

Canva conducts audio fingerprint checks for music uploaded by users. If the music you uploaded infringes copyright, you won’t be able to publish your design with audio.

This also applies to music uploaded on Ditto, as it's licensed by our partner Merlin. Please note that Merlin controls the copyright to any content uploaded on Ditto.

Tip: Select the slider to mute all audio tracks. You can also move the slider to adjust the volume of the selected audio track.

Premium or paid tracks will be tagged with a

Pro icon or a currency symbol. See the section below for licensing information.

See Adding popular music to designs to know more.

On using free music

Check our Content Licence Agreement for licence information.

On using premium music

Each premium music purchase is for one-time use, which means you can only use the track in one design. If you want to use it again in another design, purchase a new licence if you are using the free version of Canva.

To unlock unlimited use of premium music, upgrade to Canva Pro or Canva Teams.

Check our Content Licence Agreement for the permitted uses and restrictions on using Pro music.

Can I adjust or trim the audio track duration?

To trim tracks and adjust their volumes, see Adjust volume, trim, and clip audio tracks for details.

Can I sync my audio and video?

Yes, you can! See Syncing audio with video for details.

Posting your design online?

If you’ll be sharing your design on social media and video-sharing platforms, verify your music to avoid copyright claims. See Purchasing and verifying audio tracks and Avoiding and clearing content ID claims for details.

For copyright-related questions on premium music, contact our Support Team.
